Rep Power: 62165 | Re: Very Important for all patients in the Antelope Valley!! Quite an interesting meeting. First I was a little taken back by the fact that they start their meetings with a prayer, not that I am for or against that it just surprised me. I have attended Council Meeting in at least ten different cities and have not seen that take place since the early 80's. Great turn out, I was really surprised and impressed to see how many people came and how many spoke. As usual there was a lot of speaker cards for this subject and only one person spoke against regulation from the public. However it is clear that most of the council members are not open to regulation I believe if the right ordinance is written they all but two of the council can be swayed. The Mayor seems to be a champion of MMJ regulation here in the Lancaster. The thing that really impressed me about this council was that they actually listened to what we where saying whether or not they agreed with us we were at least given the respect of open ears unlike many Cities like LA where they will simply ignore you. There was a 3-2 vote for forming regulation and for the mayor to form a committee to form such regulation. They where originally talking about staff and two council members and city attorney. When I spoke I asked them to at least allow for some patients to also sit on the panel and I offered my time to do just that as a patient not representing any organization or collective. The mayor ammended the motion to include patient advocates. and it passed. It is going to be a tough road here in Lancaster, it seems to be quite a conservitive town (as far as those whom run it anyways). Thanks to all of you that took the time to attend and speak there where some tearful moments when a couple of "Obviously" sick ladies spoke I believe we did reach the hearts of all members of the council but just not the minds yet. Great Job everyone, great job. Last edited by Justonevoice; 10-13-2009 at 10:04 PM.. |
