Rep Power: 12084 | Starbucks vs dispensaries I guess we should add Starbucks to the list of companies who want to see medical and industrial cannabis banned from the earth. It might cut into their profits too. In Santa Barbara, there is heat on that city to limit dispensaries. Some complain that there are more new clinics in that city than Starbucks. Maybe there's a reason for that. Supply and demand. Supply and demand. Give the people what they want. And let the taxes aid the troubled economy. If there are more clinics than coffee stands opening up in your area, what does that tell you? Perhaps there is a market out there for a different type of social hang out and coffee can no longer compete. Coffee is a drug. Kind of like speed. I don't prefer it but you have that right to. I would not try to stop you or judge you because you prefer your speed. Alcohol is a drug. Kind of like downers. I don't prefer it, but I will not judge you because you like it. Maybe I don't like the taste or feeling alcohol gives me. It's not for everyone. But who am I to say that it is not good for you? For me, cannabis is neither speed or a downer. It helps me in many other ways. And I will decide what is best for me. No one will decide for me. Especially from someone who has never been there. There's nothing wring with pot except the man-made laws against it. The good news is that California is working to change that. I hope I live long enough to see it a reality. ![]() Stone Hartman - Man at large Last edited by Stone Hartman; 10-18-2009 at 05:58 PM.. |

Rep Power: 62282 | Re: Starbucks vs dispensaries Funny, every time I hear that comparison I think of what you are saying. The simple equation is that dispensaries(n) > starbucks(n) = > demand for MMJ. Obviously I am no more a mathemetician than I am an attorney, but the equation makes sense to me. Rather than complaining about how many there are, why aren't they asking why is there more demand than there is for the most popular beverage in the country? And if there is that much demand why is there a throttled supply? Keep working on the solution, my friends. |

Rep Power: 18054 | Re: Starbucks vs dispensaries I think Starbucks should diversify and go into the dispensary business, for they really would compliment each other. "A venti latte and an eighth of that Jack over there please." Not only that, but the name Starbucks just...................fits. (....talkin' outtta the recreational side of my mouth here....... ;) ) Last edited by lwien; 10-18-2009 at 02:08 PM.. |

Rep Power: 1719 | Re: Starbucks vs dispensaries I love a good cup of coffee when I am medicated. I know a lot of people who do as well. Starbucks should look at locating next to dispensaries! When you think about it, there should be a bakery and a pizza shop all in close range to a smoking lounge. |

Yes... moreover... the MORE CO-OPS than STARBUCKS "fact" is misleading. A statement like this designed to deceive the public into thinking that mmj is more popular than coffee...this "fact," when present by the media or public officials, can falsely lead people to think that more people buy mmj than buy coffee...this "fact" inflates the perceived size of the mmj industry this serves the interests of mmj persecutors because it helps them present the image that mmj co-ops are "out of control". The real comparison should be between co-ops and coffee shops because starshmucks is one chain of coffee shop, and even if starshmucks is the biggest chain, its certainly has no more than 50% of the coffeeshop market...We see the same thing when we hear that "LA has more co-ops than McDonalds"...maybe this is true, but there certainly are more fast food places than co-ops! (and personally, I think your kids are safer if they are surrounded by co-ops, and not fast food). Of course, it is also worth noting that a typical Starbucks serves a lot more customers in a given day and (yes I know their coffee is ridiculously expensive) their typical customer spends a lot less than a typical co-op goer... but more importantly, and what we should point out in response to "more co-ops than starbucks" claims, is that each co-op is independent and owned by its patients...every starbucks is owned by starbucks... starbucks is a publicly traded multinational...the profit from all of the starbucks in santa barbara, or la or wherever, flows out of those individual starbucks and out to the starbuck's executives and shareholders (some of whom are in CA, but they live all over the world) whereas the revenue from a co-op stays within the co-op and, thus, within the local community... Our response to people to claim that "there are more co-ops than starbucks" should be "yes, there are, and each co-op is independent and owned by its patients, therefore, these co-ops spend their revenue locally, unlike Starbucks which dispersing it's profit to shareholders across the globe...which to you think is better for our local community? Independent enterprises that spend revenue within our city, or 1,000 copies of the same chain, each sending its profit outside of the city and outside of the state If you control the terms and the fact, then you control the debate! | |
