Rep Power: 1719 | Marijuana and the Constitution My son has to deliver the "pro Marijuana and hemp" speech in his college class. This class is based on reviewing today's laws and the constitution. I have printed so much data for him that it is overwhelming. This is not just about medical use, but use in general. Can everyone help me streamline the most factual documentation for the argument of total legalization of Marijuana and hemp. Thanks from a Proud Mom! |

Rep Power: 447 | Re: Marijuana and the Constitution Freedom! The only thing that gave the idea of a constitiution merit is to be a means to protect your right to your life, liberty and property (the pursuite of happyness). And is the only valid reason for its ( a constitution) existance/authority. And the use (religious, medical, recreational, industrial etc.) of mj is irrevalent with freedom, no one has the right to forcably deny it. No one ever has the right to initate theft, force or fraud. The only valid reason for force is in self-defence from someone who would do the above. And it does'nt matter your groups race, sex, culture, geografic location, numbers, badges or titles. No one else's opionions on these matters are valid. |

Rep Power: 4551 | Re: Marijuana and the Constitution During the beginning decades of this country, it was mandatory for all farmers to grow a stand of hemp for ships' riggings. And don't forget that during the Second World War our farmers were encouraged to grow hemp for the same reason. |

Rep Power: 1719 | Re: Marijuana and the Constitution Thanks so far! I asked my son to be more specific. His class is currently talking about what the fathers thought of the power of the Federal Government vs. the State. His class is using the hottest topics today that challenge the power. He is to speak for 5 to 10 minutes on that the full legalization if the correct course of action. He is to site the major benefits, be it taxation, cost of law enforcement, agricultural, etc. I gave him so much info regarding the medical use, but I am lacking national benefits over and above medical use. Again, thanks for any help. |

If that's the case, he needs to focus on the Anti-Federalists as opposed to the men who actually drafted the Constitution, which were almost exclusively members of the Federalist party. Ex- Alexander Hamilton, Federalist extrodinaire. Unfortunately for states' rights advocates, the goal of the Constitution was to gradually destroy American localism. For a short speech, I suggest that he look into Thomas Jefferson's political theories, but zero in on James Madison. Madison and George Mason more or less wrote the Bill of Rights, which was NOT included in the original version of the Constitution, which was ratified in 1789. The Bill of Rights wasn't added on until 1791. In Madison's original draft of the First Amendment, there was a provision that would have allowed the individual states to essentially veto federal legislation that they disliked. Obviously, this portion of the proposed Amendment did not end up in the final draft that exists today, but it's an important point of contention that illustrates the diametrically opposed views of the Anti-Federalists, who favored states' rights, vs those of the dominant Federalist party, who preferred a strong central government. Before I get a buncha shit flung at me, I know, I'm a know it all. I've learned to live with it, 'n if y'all don't like it, well, there's always ignore!

For real, I don't think contemporary Americans really get how divisive shit was back in the day. Didya know that back in, I believe 1798, Congressman Matthew Lyon got beaten with a cane on the floor of the House of Representatives? No joke. Today's politicians may not always be civil, but at least they don't resort to beating each other's asses anymore!
