Rep Power: 8399 | LAPD raids smell like corruption So according to what people are saying, the LAPD are going to take down all the sucessful coops that provide good quality for a good price and thus are successful businesses. But they are going to leave alone the coops that are overpriced and provide lousy quality, so that no one wants to buy their product, so they will end up going out of business. The end result will be to force patients out onto the street to purchase. It almost sounds like the LAPD have been given a directive from organized crime to wipe the competition. Opinions? |

This is hearsay... you have no facts but "people say" to back these facts. Get your facts straight first. People say is NOT a reliable source, sorry.

So your amended statement reads: So according to what STEVE COOLEY IS saying, the LAPD are going to take down all the sucessful coops that provide good quality for a good price and thus are successful businesses. When did he say he would close down successful coops? I thought he said they were all illegal and should be shut down?

Rep Power: 4551 | Re: LAPD raids smell like corruption NNCC was certainly a successful shop with a great reputation. But it was also a pre-ICO shop. The other shop was in Pacoima. The consensus among a trade group meeting I attended last night was that Pacoima was a post-ICO shop. There's your real message. It is irrelevant when shop went into business. Every shop in LA is at risk now. I just hope Cooley and the Sheriffs don't start getting frisky in the rest of the county. |

1). It is worth noting that LAPD's most recent target is appears to have been a relatively successful enterprise (at least judging from the comments of fellow WTers). 2). I am not saying that LAPD is working with organized crime (I don't think they're that sophisticated), but one thing is true: These raids will have the direct impact of driving up sales on the black market. Organized criminals that traffic in weed must be cheering the LAPD on because the LAPD is handing them a monopoly on marijuana distribution! Hyperbole is understandable given our persecution by the LAPD. But when dealing with the public and trying to enlighten others to the benefits of compassionate mmj policy, it helps to find something that you have in common with your opponent. Both MMJ Patients and anti-mmj, conservative law-and-order types, hate organized crime. The LAPD right now is helping organized crime, not because these two are working together, but because they share a common enemy...US (that is, us legitimate patients who want safe, legal access to affordable medicine).

Rep Power: 10261 | Re: LAPD raids smell like corruption I'd have to agree with Carl here, it is unlikely that there is a conspiracy here. Even if there were one, conspiracies thrive on money. Suing the leo's involved, suing them personally not just the department, is the way to go here. Every one of the patients/members rights has been violated by the lapd yesterday. State law, which the involved courts would be bound to go by, favors the patients. That doesn't guarantee anything, but I like the odds. As I've said in other posts, rank and file cops are not necessarily bad people, they do a tough and in most cases, very needed job that not many people will do. Most don't want to make waves, they want their job, their scheduled raises in rank and pay grade, their health car benefits and hopefully to retire and go fishing on a pension. They'll tell you, it's not their job to change or debate laws, just enforce them or in many cases, their interpretation of the law. Open their wallets and their hearts and minds will follow. Granted, the current situation is infuriating but that fury has to be belayed here to give way to rational and precise tactics. Fury will only benefit you in a head to head confrontation and that's not an option here. Last edited by tooweirdtolivetooraretodie; 10-22-2009 at 11:03 AM.. |

Rep Power: 364 | Re: LAPD raids smell like corruption tooweirdtolive, Very insightful and intelligent post. I agree the officers involved should be sued directly, sueing the LAPD is basically sueing innocent tax payers that end up getting the bill one way or another. Does any fellow WT have any experience in directly sueing a law enforcement offical ? If so please share your experience. How would one go about the task of obtaining the names of the officers involved ? |

Did anyone read this How L.A. Became Overrun With Legal Marijuana | Newsweek National News | Newsweek.com "They seized every ounce of marijuana, Beck says, about $500,000 worth, and all his cash too, about $25,000, though he later got an invoice from the DEA claiming they'd seized only $12,500. "Someone pocketed 12 grand," he says. "How corrupt is that?" A DEA spokesperson wouldn't address individual allegations..." (looks like the first one who opens the safe gets to inform the others how much cash they "recovered" as evidence). Every time a collective is raided in Los Angeles, some cop ads to his kids' college fund.
