Controlled Substances List

I think this can help Patients with any questions about Controlled Substances.

I want to point out that CoCa leaves as well as Cocaine are legal and also are controlled substances.
Marijuana, on the other hand its a Illegal controlled substance with no medical value...
This is the Kernel of the Entire issue on the legalization and control of Cannabis:

Re: Controlled Substances List

Besides being an extremely addictive and dangerous narcotic, cocaine has some medicinal use. Cocaine has been used as a local anesthetic for eye and nasal surgery. Besides being an anesthetic, it also is a potent vasoconstrictor (constricts the blood vessels around the area where injected [eye or nose]). The vasoconstriction helps reduce bleeding and the systemic circulation of cocaine (into the heart, specifically).

More recently, the use of cocaine as an anesthetic for eye and nasal surgery has diminished, and has been replaced by other local anesthetics. These newer (and safer) local anesthetics have to be combined with a vasoconstrictor in order to do the same effect as cocaine.

Pharmaceutical grade cocaine is available in a 4% solution for injection. Studies comparing cocaine to other local anesthetics most often reveal that newer local anesthetics are more effective in reducing pain during surgeries and safer. It is generally accepted by the medical community that the use of cocaine for medical procedures should be limited. However, the need for it to be available is still there.

This is a story from the times...about canabis overdose...

Death by cannabis verdict is a first

A WARNING about the toxic effects of cannabis was issued last night after a 36-year-old man became the first to die as a direct result of smoking the drug. Lee Maisey, 36, who smoked half a dozen “joints” a day, was found dead on the living room floor of his home in Summerhill, Pembrokeshire, after complaining of a headache.
Michael Howells, the Pembrokeshire Coroner, recorded the cause of death as cannabis poisoning, although the verdict recorded was death by misadventure because Mr Maisey had died while taking part in an illegal activity.
Philip Guy, a lecturer in addictions at the University of Hull, said that “cannabis has changed. Nowadays it is a lot stronger than it used to be. It is not the nice hippy drug it once was. It is a distinct possibility that someone could die from extreme toxicity.” Dr Guy said death was more likely if the drug had been eaten instead of smoked. “If you eat a large amount of it it can be deadly.”

Re: Controlled Substances List

Did the coroner do an autopsy or did he just say "cannabis poisoning"? I think that if this was truly cannabis poisoning, there would be a media storm from the drug warriors about this. I'm willing to bet that this guy died of something other thatn cannabis, but because he was a known heavy smoker, it was given as the cause.

This crap about how cannabis is now super potent and more deadly makes me both laugh and cry at the same time

Wow, I am a skeptic that there has been a cannabis related death, but I will watch to see if there is any truth to this.

we appear to be giving this report more attention than anyone else, it is of course patently false.

Re: Controlled Substances List

I think it is here to show how idiotic and Fear based the reality has been distorted by Politics.... Not Facts or Science....
Its been going strong since Nixon was President and is still going strong today...
Keep in mind also that some of the Religious Right in this country also believe that Adam and Eve ran around with Dinosaurs...

Re: Controlled Substances List

DATELINE-Mono County

"Greg McGinticutty, of Mono Lake California, a medical marijuana patient, was the first confirmed death due to cannabis poisoning. Mr. McGinticutty, who has suffered from a rare form of intestinal deformity has succumbed to his home made remedy of a Cannabis formed miniature 'nucular' missle which he gently launched into his nether orifices at approximately 3:12 AM pacific standard time.
Mr. McGinticutty was elated saying 'well, If I had to go out what better way than to also honor my country with a 'nucular' missle up my backyard.' God Bless Ronald McDonald and the BIGMAC©.
