Re: Bruce Margolin interview on October raids, LA attorneys office

I wonder when he changed his mind. Back in early 2005 he said dispensaries are illegal and if I open one expect problems and don't ask him for representation if i did open one. He said I should find a lawyer from I did have problems and I did not ask him. WTF. How can he now represent those doing the same thing only 4 1/2 years later. No laws have changed. He is using the other side of the argument now. I guess he decided to cash in on it. I had heard regular marijuana busts are down. He must have needed to adjust his business to where the clients are.

"The law has provisions for caregivers but has a vague definition of who qualifies. No caregiver case has reached the appellate level to set a precedent, said Bruce Margolin, an attorney and author of "The Margolin Guide to Marijuana Laws."

"We're in a stage of new territory where the law is being developed as we speak," Margolin said. "This case, involving this guy being a caretaker, has all kinds of hurdles." "

He did not even know the terms. Caretaker uh no, Caregiver. Sure now that all the work is done he comes out and represents those who he used to deny. I guess whatever makes him the most money the easiest is best for him. He should have read the law back in 2005 like the rest of us.

I believe Bruce Margolin over you anyday. You just nay-say everything. In fact a couple of posts back you declared Trutanich "won", and there was no reason to put up a fight. Bullshit!

You need to read his book. Not the current version, the version from back in 2004, 2005, 2006 Todays version has some case history from 2007 and the AG's guidelines (where he uses an incorrect date) and includes his new found acceptance.

What you fail to understand is not that there is no reason to put up a fight, the time to determine who gets to participate in the fight was decided long ago, Bruce did not want to be a part of the fight back then, but like all them dispensaries in Los Angeles that popped up after mid 2006, they want to reap the bounty that others have fought for. If any one of those lazy bastards wanted to do something they could easily had a fight in 2007 or 2008 in San Bernardino or Riverside or Orange. NO, fuck no, they go to los angeles where its easy. NOW, they are moving into Orange when its easy and San Bernardino now that its easy and Now in riverside now that its easy. But they still do not go into Cities where a fight could be had, where they could actually be something other than a PROFITEER. Where they could be a PIONEER. It aint about the PROFIT its about the PROGRESS.

Oh that's easy--- tell'em the truth. Tell him that if he wants to be rich, law school is definitely NOT the way to go. First off, he's gonna graduate with a mound of debt. He will most likely spend the first 20 some odd years of his career paying off it off. And unless he plans on going into corporate or entertainment law, getting rich is highly unlikely. If he decides to practice in either of those areas, he still ain't gonna get rich unless he makes partner in some massive law firm.

Even graduates from the top tier law schools in the nation are having a hard time getting hired right now.

Re: Bruce Margolin interview on October raids, LA attorneys office

Bruce Margolin did not defend me when I came to his office back in 1998 after I was arrested for cultivation. Why? Because I couldn't cough up enough money. Instead, he sent me to a nearby office where I was swindled by a lawyer (not going to name) who BS'd me for some money and this lawyer's license, I later found out, was revoked.

Needless to say, I think Mr. Margolin is only in it for the money. If you don't have the money, even though you have a strong and potentially landmark case, he won't give a rat's a$$.

Needless to say, I think Mr. Margolin is only in it for the money. If you don't have the money, even though you have a strong and potentially landmark case, he won't give a rat's a$$.
Sadly, principle and the right thing do not pay rent or salary. Thats the real world. This lawyer has expenses like any lawyer. It is just not realistic to expect something for nothing.

I'll second that. I think there's a big ole double standard when it comes to lawyers. You wouldn't go into a restaurant say hey, I'm really seriously starving. Can ya hook ya me up with some food even though I won't be paying for it? No. So why would ya expect a lawyer to give ya something for nothing based on an abstract moral principle?

Ya need to understand that lawyers ask for a retainer because some clients will skip out on them. That's a fact.

Who said anything about free? I said it was because I couldn't produce enough money. He wanted 5 times what his sleezball counterpart wanted(who by the way practiced law without a valid license while he supposedly represented me).

Mr. Margolin has benefitted quite nicely from prohibition and enforcement. No wonder why he is for regulation.

If he benefits so much from prohibition, why would he favor regulation? Wouldn't he want to keep it either illegal or up in legal limbo land?
