Rep Power: 13757 | The voters are ready but are the politicians of Illinois? PEORIA: Poll respondents favor medical marijuana Posted on 03/10 at 07:09 PM BY FRANK RADOSEVICH II OF THE JOURNAL STAR PEORIA — Sixty-eight percent of registered Illinois voters who were polled last month favored legalizing marijuana for medical use by seriously and terminally ill patients, according to a group that promotes the drug’s legalization. The survey, conducted last month by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research Inc. but paid for by the Washington, D.C.-based Marijuana Police Project, polled 625 registered voters across the state. Findings, however, were released Monday by the advocacy group on the heels of an Illinois Senate committee approving a bill legalizing medical marijuana. When asked how strongly they support “allowing seriously and terminally ill patients to use and grow medical marijuana for personal use if their doctors recommend it,” 42 percent of respondents statewide said they strongly supported it, 26 percent somewhat supported it, 12 percent somewhat opposed it and 15 percent strongly opposed. Five percent of respondents had no opinion. In a similar survey of the Peoria area — which interviewed 400 voters in Peoria, Knox, Stark, Marshall, Woodford, Tazewell, Mason and Fulton counties — 31 percent of interviewed voters said they strongly supported it, 28 percent somewhat supported it, 13 percent somewhat opposed it, 21 percent strongly opposed it and 7 percent had no opinion. http://www.pjstar.com/php/index.php?...cal_marijuana/ |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: The voters are ready but are the politicians of Illinois? I just recently moved from Illinois. There isn't much hope of getting the bill passed any time soon. It is a very frightened and backward state when it comes to standing up for what's right. And I have to say from 1st hand experience there are a great many State Troopers who just out and out threaten the senators who would vote in such a bill....it is a sad shame. I left my home there and my family because I could not live in pain anymore, and could not take having my meds confiscated yet again... |

Rep Power: 0 | I would actually love to stay posted on how this turns out. I'm going to be living there for the next year to finish school and any info I can get on the state is useful...As of right now I am trying to figure out how I am going to get my medicine or if I should start the trial and error process all over again for a substitute that I will only need for 10 months. |

Rep Power: 16137 | Re: The voters are ready but are the politicians of Illinois? As a student currently going to school in chicago, I'd be more than proud to have MMJ come to this city. As a native of California (and still a resident & patient) I'd be happy to join in on the efforts. The cops in Chicago are very chill about cannabis. However, the Suburban Cops would be virtually unemployed if they weren't harassing weed smokers. In California, it seems to me that the cops are too busy keeping us from killing each other in traffic and on the freeway. (I didn't notice how crazy we drive in california compared to everyone else) In the midwest, it's a bit more family oriented and blue collar. However..both Obama and Mayor Daley have spoken about their respect for MMJ. Mayor Daley has tried to get it legalized since his wife's suffering from breast cancer. Keep up the fight Chicago! Hopefully those suburban cops will have something better to do than harass the youngsters. |
