Rep Power: 1765 | Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure I mentioned this in the thread about the other initiative, but here is the Tax Cannabis 2010 site: Tax Cannabis 2010 This is one of the legalization measures gathering signatures for next year. It says they already have 250,000 signatures (433,000 needed). |

Rep Power: 1765 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure I've tried several times to send these people a message via their contact form, but nothing happens when I hit the submit button. Anybody have an e-mail address for them? Here is the question I have for them: How come your initiative has such a low one ounce limit? That's significantly less than our current medical marijuana law. Just one plant alone could yield more than one ounce, so does this basically mean nobody can grow their own? |

Rep Power: 62374 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure I have signed both legalize and tax petitions. I would sign Jack's as I believe it to be superior, but have not seen it yet. Perhaps I am being foolish signing them all, but I could live with any one of the three. Please support these petitions with your signatures. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure You should go to one of the meetings hey hold, it's very informative. They answer all your questions and explain how you can help out. They aren't trying to change any of MMJ laws. They are trying to get marijuana treated like alcohol. If this passes, patients will still have the right to carry 8 oz on them, same rules will still apply. Those that aren't patients won't get ticketed/arrested if they find any more than an oz on them. They will also be able to grow for personal use. They wrote in a small space to grow in because they don't want a bunch of grow-ops to pop up. |

Rep Power: 4551 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure Who or what would be in charge of the commercial production of cannabis if this passes? I don't mean a regulatory agency like Alcoholic Beverage Control but the entities that will actually produce the product? Will it be a wide open ballgame or will only certain deep pockets be allowed to participate? Also, what mechanism will keep Uncle Sam at bay? If the federal government's resistance to medical marijuana upsets us, just think what it will do about legalization. Will it just let us go our merry way? In any case, I'm willing to open this can of worms but I'm also ready for the sh*tstorm that will surely follow. |

But I'm fully aware that we could be getting ourselves into a gigantic mess. I guess I'm just at my wit's end. I know this is gonna be a nightmare; at the same time, I see this as a way of forcing a long awaited fight with the feds. I wish it didn't have to be this way, yet it seems we have no other recourse. In the words of GW Bush, "I say bring it on!"

And by better, of course, I mean viable options, not Liberatarian pipe dreams about an entirely unregulated free market ruled by the invisible hand job.

Legitimacy brings more than taxes. It brings Quality Control. Things like easy to access means to eliminate mold and insects. Larger and unmolested farms that provide legitimate medicine for the MMJ Dispensaries, and lower prices. The end of taxes eventually for those who legitimately use MMJ like any other prescribed medication. Just to name a few benefits. I personally am willing to pay my taxes for MMJ today if it means that eventually it would open the door to those benefits and more that are not mentioned here. jlw

Just saw Ed Rosenthal speak on a panel about how the government has no business regulating something we can all grow for free in our backyard... He said that the majority of tomatoes consumed in America are homegrown, not factory farmed, and we should follow the tomato model for legal enjoyment of cannabis

Rep Power: 3199 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure This is an inferior initiative from the Oaksterdam University founder Richard Lee. It's worded poorly, weak, and doesn't do enough. It will make it illegal to smoke around minors which is currently not illegal. Here's a better one. Rep Power: 19706 | Re: Tax Cannabis 2010 - LEGALIZATION measure cannabis is currently one of the only true free markets operating in the usa the economics of cannabis are thriving while the rest of the nation flounders. i support legalization but let the market remain free keep the fda out of it let the market regulate itself. id support making alcahol and all drugs legal but only under the current system we have for mmj use it all you want recreationally but with a doc monitioring. it affects your health/ability to function your script gets cut. alc is killing you script gets cut. obviously would not be a perfect system but it would focus all drugs as a health issue instead of a legal one ! |

I have heard some bad things about oaksterdams petition. Things like, you can no longer grow any amount and he would be one of the major provider$ . As far as the minor's issue i do agree that it should be illegal. Maybe they could amend the age to where if the child can function on their own, ie. not needing diapers changed, can cook for themselves, then maybe, but you dont want to get the kids medicated off the second hand smoke, becuase that is bad.I want it legal so i can grow my own without persecution or prosecution.
