| HUMBOLDT: Dellas sentenced for marijuana The Eureka Reporter Dellas sentenced for marijuana 1/13/2007 The United States Department of Justice announced Friday that Timothy Dellas — a former Manila Community Services District president — was sentenced to 10 years in prison for manufacturing marijuana and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. In addition, Dellas, 51, of Manila, will serve five years of supervised release. Dellas’ sentence, the DOJ reported, is the result of an investigation by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dellas was convicted May 4 by a San Francisco jury, after a six-day trial, for the manufacture of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The jury determined that Dellas possessed and manufactured more than 1,000 marijuana plants. A federal grand jury indicted Dellas on July 22, 2003, and he was charged with manufacturing marijuana and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. The two-count indictment specified that Dellas knowingly possessed and manufactured more than 1,000 marijuana plants, the DOJ reported. Dellas was arrested during the execution of a search warrant at 3500 Elk Ridge Road, in Briceland — a rural address in Southern Humboldt County. During the search, officers found Dellas in the residence, which contained a large number of marijuana plants, a scale and packaging materials. Two additional buildings on the property were found to have been converted for the production of marijuana and contained large quantities of marijuana plants and elaborate grow rooms — with lighting and ventilation equipment — to cultivate the plants. In one of these buildings, a sign warned against leaving fingerprints, the DOJ reported. Agents found facilities to clone marijuana by growing clippings from larger plants. In total, more than 5,000 marijuana plants were found in the property’s three buildings, the DOJ reported. The DOJ reported that Dellas’ truck, which was on the property, contained documents reflecting the commercial nature of the marijuana cultivation. Transactions amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars were recorded, receipts were projected in excess of $1 million and in-partnership documents, expenses and receipts that were divided among the participants were found. Dellas is to report to authorities to begin his sentence on March 12. Copyright (C) 2007, The Eureka Reporter Last edited by Jackie Papers; 01-12-2007 at 11:28 PM.. |
