Rep Power: 1768438 | Donna Tam/The Times-Standard Article Launched: 07/01/2008 01:15:23 AM PDT Federal agents are still tallying up the evidence taken from last week's pot raids, which ended up spanning across Humboldt County and over the border into Mendocino County. FBI Special Agent Joseph Schadler said the final numbers may be released today, but he doesn't expect to see charges for a few months. Targeting what officials called a “large-scale, for-profit, commercial business,” more than 450 agents served 29 warrants and conducted raids of over 100 locations. Beginning on Tuesday, the agents wrapped up investigations by Thursday and had left the area completely by Friday, Schadler said. Only one arrest was made -- a man who allegedly interfered with agents, but was not targeted by an arrest warrant. The man was not charged and has since been released, Schadler said. The FBI estimated last week that agencies collected more than 10,000 marijuana plants, which they estimate to be worth between $25 million to $60 million. In addition to the marijuana, federal agents took more than $160,000 in cash, computers, a vehicle and 30 firearms, which included shotguns, handguns and fully automatic weapons. Schadler said the amount of territory searched accounted for the high number of agents. He said one house search usually requires about 15 to 20 people. ”You can see how those numbers can jet up there,” Schadler said, adding that the amount of space in outdoor locations requires even more agents to secure the area. Schadler said animals who were left at homes were taken care of while agents inspected the site. ”We took great care to ensure they were handled appropriately,” he said. During the search, agents would locate animals and provide them with food, water and shade. Humboldt County animal control was also called in to inspect each animal. In one case, an animal had to be removed from the area, but has since been relocated with the owner, Schadler said. Can anyone imagine them doing this with Obama as president? I suspect we will see a lot of this till Obama gets a handle on the dogs of war. |

Rep Power: 2076 | Re: Feds still sorting pot raids evidence They just wanted the stash man, thats all they ever want when they raid dispensaries. These are by no means law enforcement agents, these are thugs coming in and swiping anything they can, cash, meds, firearms, etc. All under the guise of civil protection. Its really fucked up and sad but unfortunately thats just the way it is. All these government agencies are forgetting that they work for us, instead they act like the mafia coming in for the push. *sigh* |

Rep Power: 2076 | Re: Feds still sorting pot raids evidence My bad, youre right. What I said still stands though. They are just thugs pulling a smash and grab without the worry of prosecution. No, 160k isnt that much cash for the effort of investigating and coordinating the raids but how many times have they done that in how many different places in just this year so far? Oppressing the public is the DEAs job unfortunately. |
