Hope this holds true.

It would be nice to be given a set of rules to follow.

If you think about it, it is kinda funny (not ha ha) that for years (decades really) we have been asking for rules, any set of rules beyond outright prohibition, that we could follow..even after the voters agrees with us and said, "give them rules" ...they still would not do it...

...it would be nice to believe that finally, the lawmakers will make the laws we will follow...kick ass!

yeah this came out the day after the DA did. it seems the DA was just trying to a) cover his ass, b) put some pressure on the city council, c) float a public trial balloon to see how people would react to the idea of a draconian crackdown.

Yup! And it showed that LAPD is not just going to just give the D.A. all it's resources at the drop of a hat. I thought the cop showed courage and a level head.

This is pure speculation on my part but usually when police (or DA)want to catch someone or raid someone they don't tell them ahead of time they are coming. When they raided san diego I don't think they had a public lunch in with reporters warning of impending raids...Why would the police and DA give us the heads up ?

Maybe a good scare to see how many drop out on their own..

pure theory on my part, I have no facts either way.

There is always a new cowboy like the DA who wants to come blazing through and f everything up regardless of the laws our voters put into effect. Nice to see that at least one branch of the gov, the police would adhere more to the rules set in place before partaking in such a bogus unlawful effort.

Hopefully these people use their damn heads instead of going for the almighty $$$. I for one do not want to have to resort back to playing "the game" when it comes to getting my medicine. Exactly. One of many of law enforcements tools is indeed fear and threatening. It rids out quite a few, with very little effort. A police officer told me this once (not pertaining to marijuana, but any "illegal" activities"

It is good news but its definitely not the last time we will fight this...

Capt. Kevin McCarthy, commanding officer of the LAPD's gang and narcotics division, said that without a new city ordinance - which has been in the works for more than a year - officers cannot act against many of the clinics.

"We have been getting complaints from neighborhood councils and others and we log them and try to deal with them on a case-by-case basis," McCarthy said.

"I think the district attorney made clear where he wants to go," McCarthy said. "The city attorney and Sheriff Lee Baca are on board with him. The bottom line is we want to make sure people who need it have safe access.

"But we don't want to see situations develop where there are other problems."

Yup. Behind the scenes, the LAPD must be looking at their limited resources and thinkin' that the DA has gotta be outta of his fuckin' mind.

also----this would be a good time for many co-ops to do a little self-regulation.

some helpful suggestions:

• take down the big neon pot leafs in your window

• make sure you don't have friends of patients waiting in cars in front of your co-op

• work on fitting into your neighborhood and trying to be a good neighbor

• go to your local neighborhood group meetings and make sure you and your patients are not generating complaints w/ the local community

• make sure your advertising reflects medical marijuana (wouldn't hurt to take the word "kush" or "dank" out of the name of your co-op and change it to something a bit more appropriate)

• become active in the mmj movement. go to meetings, protests, LA city council, write letters, join ASA, become involved in providing safe and secure access, not just pushing ounce specials.

• care about the quality of the meds that you are providing to patients and educate your staff in providing knowledgeable service.

now is the time to show the city attorney, DA, and the LA city council that the mmj movement is not only legitimate, but that we are responsible members of our communities.

time to step up the game people

TOTALLY agree, but I'd also do whatever I could to change the ambiance from a recreational user hangout to a medical dispensary, ergo, get rid of the hash bars, large screen TV's, lava lamps and black light posters.....

i find it very disturbing that the DA can just make something up abt pesticides and the press just believes him. what comes next? private citizens cant grow? just phillip moriss? cuz they will protect us from the evil growers. why are politicians such used condoms?

This is true... although I think collectives should be comfortable to be in for the duration of your stay. However, how tons of stereotypical "stoner culture" decorations make you feel safe or comfortable during your visit, I do not know. Personally, I believe that most collectives are not following the spirit of the law (because there is no letter of the law at this point) in putting out full page ads with pictures of ridiculously large quantities of medication or offering "QP Specials"! I mean come on.. first off you're using street slang, second, how can you feel comfortable giving a patient more than one ounce per visit? It just isn't sensible and puts everyone involved at risk. I also think advertising such things on WT is extremely foolish, but I'm not going to stop anyone. I just hope Cooley realizes that there are still collectives operating on a not-for-profit basis that aim only to provide the highest quality medication to their patients... not expanding their business empire or making the most they can off each sick person that walks through their doors.

(an aside: I think that the regulations for giving out MMJ recommendations should be more strict. Any doctor that gives out a recommendation without having full medical paperwork backing up the patients condition from another doctor should have their licenses taken away! We want actual patients using this medication, ones that would be able to actually use the medical defense (and win) in court. Just my 2c)

wow, im kinda shocked that he said that but hey it just shows that hes at least not 100% biased, which is better than most of these LEO's. im interested on how all of this is going to play out, and of course hoping for the best
