Conyers Expresses Concern About DEA Medical Marijuana Threats

(Washington, DC)- House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) released the following statement today about reports that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is threatening private landlords for housing legal medical marijuana facilities:

I am deeply concerned about recent reports that the Drug Enforcement Administration is threatening private landlords with asset forfeiture and possible imprisonment if they refuse to evict organizations legally dispensing medical marijuana to suffering patients. The Committee has already questioned the DEA about its efforts to undermine California state law on this subject, and we intend to sharply question this specific tactic as part of our oversight efforts.

I love John Conyers. I have personally been threatened with eviction from my landlord as a direct result of threats levied against him by Narcotics Detective Mark Carlson of the San Diego Police Department and Mr. "Ed" of the SD DEA. Apparently they have no sense of irony at the DEA.

The fact is that John Conyers cares that I am sick and suffering; the DEA could care less.

Does the DEA really deserve all the TONS in tax revenues they receive when they bully sick patients with it?!!

What about Roosevelt's New Deal and the guarantees this government has made it's citizens nearly a century ago?

Why don't we spend our money on rotting domestic infrastructure instead of Bush's private army of Brownshirts (i.e. Blackwater) and the jobs program that is the DEA.

I am very angry at the wholly unfair treatment I've received from the DEA. I ask you to please stop persecuting sick people. The government's elected officials who decide your careers will soon be changing. It is wise to consider the public support (or lack therof) for your agency, the DEA's current actions against medical cannabis folks in CA and your future job prospects.

ministry of hope- the narcotics officer threatened your landlord because of a personal grow or what? I know SD is real retarded when it comes to MMJ, how do they usually go about personal medical grows?

I communicated my need for a personal grow with my landlord and he got nervous and wanted to contact the SDPD. I had a telephone conference with my landlord and the SDPD and then the SD DEA seperately. My landlord and I were both scared shitless at the reactions we got.

Apparently those of us who actually communicate with our landlords and SD Narcotics department are a real threat.

We apparently are a very scary bunch of disabled folks and need to be intimidated and frightened for our own good.

This sadistic cruelty towards those legitimately suffering in San Diego is beyond comprehension. In addition to being seriously ill, I have advanced degrees and certifications and I'm financially successful. I have it great compared to others. My story is one of relative success because I'm not in jail right now.

This is why I started Hope Ministry.

wow, the heat is really turning up on the whole DEAth landlord letters. I hope to god this can stop and the DEAth squad will leave us patients alone. DEA GO AWAY !! ghdf chad

We can now start pressuring Conyers to immediately call
an end to Any and All Federal intervention on State Law
in the case of MMJ. Then he can say he practices what
he preach.
