Rep Power: 12084 | Jury Duty Calls I had to notify my boss up north that next week, I may not be available to work those days. I have to begin serving my week of jury duty. Oh, boy! I don't mind too much though, I do a lot of people watching, also a favorite airport pastime of mine. And I get an excuse to do less than I already do for excitement. I just want to do the right thing. So, I happily go. Here's my little office memo that I sent to the boss and the ones I work with to let them know: ****************************************** Hi gang, The Superior Court of California - County of Orange has invited ME, to discuss the possibilities of participating in serving some justice. The law states that's my civic duty. I have no problem with that, and I always go, but I think it's time to let Veteran's opt out if they choose to, and let the homeless get a crack at it. Anyways, I was instructed to call after 5:00 PM Friday Oct 23, a special phone number with a secret recorded message, telling me what to do next. I like the Mission Impossible approach. I just made that call. The recorded voice told me that groups numbered 5010 through 5016 were to report Monday morning at 7:30 AM, Oct. 26, at the jury assembly room, 3rd floor, Santa Ana Courthouse. This recording will self destruct in :30 seconds. Good luck Mr. Hartman. I am group # 5015. Crapola! Guess I'll be busy on Monday, but I will be checking my e-mail. They have airport security checks that will allow my laptop and air card so I won't get too board. The last 4 times I've served, it was just a lot of sitting around. I'll let you know if they find me a job as a jury member. I get $ 15.00 a day and .34 cents a mile one way (but only starting on the second day of service) Total Potential earnings: $ 60.00 plus $ 5.10 for 4 days gas. I'm jazzed! ************************************** Now y'all know that money will be going to donations, don't cha?? |

Rep Power: 8277 | Re: Jury Duty Calls Got my summons for San Diego County for the same date as my 20year old daughter. We can report two weeks before or two weeks after the date. So, we will have a father/daughter outing to the Superior Court in San Diego. Let's see, would a defense attorney or a prosecutor want a father/daughter combo on its jury???? Have a Great Day, Evades |

Rep Power: 20570 | Re: Jury Duty Calls I just finished sitting on a criminal case about 10 days ago, we were in court three weeks, counting jury selection and 4 days of deliberation. Nasty ADW (shooting) with street terrorism (gang) enhancements. It was a Sureno/Norteno thing. This was the fourth criminal trial I have sat on. I have done two civil trials. I think this will be my last... My health was seriously impacted, I just dont have the stamina for things like that any longer... I even had the letter from my Doctor excusing me medically, but after hearing a whole gang of lame excuses from the other prospective jurors, I got stupid and decided _I_ had to do _MY_ civic duty even if it killed me... Damn near did. |
