Title says it..

I got written up today at work, and given 3 days off no pay. Sounds bad, ive never been written up for anything in my 8 years of working, and man am i LIVID. Details would take to much explanation as im in the IT industry. But the main reason being my "attitude" lately. They first said its signs of drug abuse but dont want to go there yet..(ridiculous) Oh sure breaking up with my girl that i lived with, moving out, company cutting all employee hours, and all my family moving far away had nothing to do with it.. no ... im seen as a "drug addict".

3 days no pay...

Im having trouble cooling off here... seriously just PO'd!!!!

any 1 had this happen? opinions?

I've been written up, fired, and quit all because of my "attitude". I refuse to be taken advantage of and I really have a problem with "kissing ass". Put those together and you tend to have a hard time working for other people. I have been at my current job for over 5 years and I have basically been promoted to an out-of-site out-of-mind position (I have been threatened with being fired, and I piss people off on a weekly if not daily basis--it is part of the job).

Don't sweat it, there are other jobs out there even in this economy, maybe it is time to get the resume in order and start looking. If you really like the job, just wait it out things will change.

Do they know about your MMJ usage? Is this why they are blaming drugs?

What type of work do you do in IT? Can you be more specific as there are many of us in the Industry that might be able to assist.

damn man that sucks! i work in IT too, network and user support and always figured IT guys need to be medicated :D
they didn't drug test you because they'd have to test the whole company or have a policy about random testing. from my understanding they can't single a person and say we want a piss test from you.

It's more effective to have an "attitude" when you work in IT, if you don't it just makes your job harder. But they've laid off half the company here, changed everything and maybe not for the better, so a lot of people have gotten talked to about attitude. But people with 2 kids saw their insurance go from around 200 a month to almost 700 now, I'd be pissed too.

Sucks though, you should try to calm down and swallow your pride right now. It's a hard time to find a new job.

haha, you sound like me. This is my first disciplinary action ever, so im trippin. Just like you say, i refuse to be taken advantage of, and i dont kiss ass. I think the resume is getting updated haha

No they dont know about MMJ. They just threw it out there in assumption,, which i think is bull shit considering all the other things going on with life right now. I do all sorts of stuff.. imaging HDD's / trouble shooting network/ wireless / LAN/WAN hardware/software / security config and install, wiring in cars antennas, gps, all that stuff, kind of broad.

More specifically one of the reasons besides my attitude is i didint load the users Lotus Notes config file on a computer i was imagine , because I could not obtain it, which I addressed in prior meetings, which were ignored.

Thanks man. I think your right about the attitude haha, They had cut our hours to four days a week (missing 4 days a month) for like 6-7 months. It messed with the bills, especially during moving.. and they wonder why their employees aren't dancing

So im updating the resume today, sending it out to a few places. With my pay it seems everyone wants a minimum of a bachelors degree, which I do not have..just 3-4 years experience, and a A+... guess its time to go get the CCENT and get studying huh..

damn you guys are all cool!

Real world experience is better than a BS degree anyday, just make your resume show your outstanding abilities and make them want you. If you shine well enough on paper the degree doesn't matter, at least for most jobs. You can get your MCP with just one test, fairly easy.

I kinda have the same problem, no degree and haven't gotten a certification in years, my MCSE is for NT 4.0. But I have been doing this for a decade so hopefully I would do pretty well in the job search, save for the fact that I don't want to do this so much anymore. It's all I've ever done and I am about to turn 30 and I'm already burnt out on it. I am thinking of going back to school now to find something completely non-technical to do.

the a+ is the easiest cert to obtain in the history of mankind. i still have one. i wouldnt be quick to quit. im sure you know more but on paper that doesnt look that great.

I got my A+ at the same time I got my Novell certification, neither of them have done me a whole lot of good.

that sounds exactly like my shitty vocational school experience...complete with worthless teachers who were pretty much learning as we were and couldnt even speak english really. like some persians or something......it was fucking horrible. i despise all that computer shit now anyway and i see how bad it stresses out most IT workers. fuck that.

It's not the stress but the lack of real challenge that gets me. Every place I've worked after 6 months I get it so buttoned up that I sit around and do nothing all day after that because nothing happens. Sure there's a project here and there, but for the most part you are relegated to sparse desktop support that a monkey could do. It's just after enough time all the problems are the same, plus the internet is a much better resource now than 5 years ago so everything can be searched and resolved in no time.

I think everyone probably ends up feeling the same about their job though.

This is probably just another way for your company to save a few bucks, seeing as they've already cut back on hours.

Definitely make the most of the time off. Don't let it eat at you. Do some things you enjoy, but haven't had the chance to do for awhile!

Maybe spend a little time getting the resume in order. Wouldn't it be nice to come in to work next month and plop your letter of resignation down upon the asshole's desk?

In the grand scheme, this is not too huge. Think about looking back at this in 20 or 30 years. Don't get too worked up about it. You know your qualities and what you have to offer the world much better than any corporate scumbag.

Thanks! Ya it does seem like a big deal now.. but when you put it that way it really doesn't seem that bad ya know? I spent all yesterday updating the resume, gracias friend :)

Ill admit it does worry me a little. But ive accepted what I do, and accept the penalties that could follow.. once i did that.. i can sleep happily through the night...

I think all accusers should be also tested for all drugs themselves. sounds fair to me .........because that kind of quick judgement on you.... sounds like the alcohol (in them) talking !

Thats a wack scenario man Costco canned me because I was seeing this chick that my manager liked. My manager squeezed info out of my other co-workers and had me fired because " I was not what costco was looking for" ive held so many jobs only leaving them for a better position so i know about total horseshit dude...he found out i was a medical patient and used it against me. I was pissed but now i laugh bc he is still a hotdog rolling douchebag manager. best part he was a straight edge x.x.x. guy named BLAZE..the irony here is unreal.
