Rep Power: 7001 | I had a job interview and I think it went fairly well since they sent me to get drug tested. I was expecting maybe a urine test, but nope... I had to get a hair follicle test. The whole day has been nerve-wrecking... I waited an hour to get my hair tested! I was even talking myself into stop smoking till I found a job cause I was getting so stressed out over this. But, when I got home I had to smoke to calm these nerves of mine. *sigh Thanks in advance. Bleh. I googled and searched high and low about it... and I'm pretty sure I failed miserably. fuck. Generally, they cut a sample from your head. Now if you have dont have any hair on your head, then I assume they take it from other areas. I have long hair, so I didn't have to worry about them cutting elsewhere.

I hope that once we get Medical Marijuana completely decriminalized (hopefully in this next voting), we go after the ilegality of asking job seekers to subject themselves to a procedure that constitutes a total invasion of privacy. Do we test new employees for alcohol use? As long as your performance meets the standards set by your employer during working hours, your privacy is guaranteed by the "constitution" (or what's left of it!) |

Rep Power: 7001 | Bad news. I didnt pass the drug test. Just got a call from the doctor for the company and he said I tested positive for marijuana. I let him know I was a medical marijuana patient, and he said it doesnt matter. He let me know HR would get in touch with me to go over my options. Which basically means, hes notifying them that I failed my test. No job for me, back to looking for a job... Detox shampoos dont work. I'm so sad. Seems wrong in so many ways, but so little you can do about it. Last edited by ameeli; 11-05-2009 at 08:11 PM.. |

Maybe before giving up hope, ask to see the requirement from HR and SPECIFICALLY which "drugs" are acceptable/not-acceptable. If they don't have a clear written description, you may be able to argue it, you know? If it means enough and is worth fighting for, you should go for it. Is it a 'fireable' offense if you come up positive for marijuana while employed? If not, and if it's probation time only, perhaps you can have a probation period for the first few months of employment? Ask them for options, it's not like you lied to them.
