Rep Power: 878 | Taking a break from using cannibus? Okay, So I have been a MMJ patient for 3 years, and I've been using cannibus since 2004 on a regular basis. For the past two years I have been using it almost daily. I hasn't effected me in any way, like making me lazy or it has not effected my health. Just recently I felt my lungs hurting. I use a vaporized, water pipe or blunts. I stoped smoking blunts a while back, So i just stick to glass water pipes or a vaporized. But even with the vape my lungs continued to hurt when i medicate. So since Monday i stopped using MMJ over all, not for good but just taking a break. I use it for anxiety and sleep. Since i stopped i havent felt much of a difference. I wanted to know if any one of you have taken a "break" from using MMJ? And if so, did you have any temptations. I really have no and I find it really easy. |

| Hey Suspect I took a 9 month break about 4 years ago. I was in the same situation as you. Blunts were the main offender(although a 4 foot bong didn't help either While it wasn't certainly wasn't easy going without meds for 9 months, it completely reset my tolerance, and gave my lungs time to recover. Sleep will be tough, you'll most likely need to start going to bed earlier. I had a LOT of trouble sleeping when I did this, but your body will get used to it. The chest pain persisted for around a month for me after quitting, but it did go away. It was a good feeling when it did too, I know having unexplained pain is no good for anxiety Maybe when you start up again, invest in a volcano. I used one exclusively for about a year to give my lungs another break about a year ago. A bubbler is a good idea too, or a small bong (don't go too big). Good luck, we're here to help if you need it! |

| Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? The longest I've stopped since I became a patient was a little more than a week, on my honeymoon in a non-MMJ state. I did have a couple of bad symptom days, but since our room was AWESOME it was fine to spend a couple of days just lounging around and I didn't mind not having any meds. I agree, when we came back the first bowl I had knocked me on my ass. I didn't know just a week could do that! |

Rep Power: 28 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? This is a great thread: I too have encountered this problem however I can't seem to manage a break ( unless the day time counts ). I really have had the black lung for a while. It comes and goes but I noticed it has really gone down since I started a 9-5 and therefore only medicate at night. Keep up the good posts and discussion always good to share your own situation in case it relates to any other trackers! |

Rep Power: 878 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? thanks for re posting!!!!!! the "break" from MMJ is going fine, the only effect i feel is my dreams. there too boring and too plain. also what i find awkward is, when ever some body posts a good thread on this site, some thing significant to out health and this privilege we have . rarely any one responds. yet ive seen tons of pointless ones that have millions of responds.... |

| Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? as a long time smoker, I have taken breaks. Before I discovered edibles, it was reallllly hard. Now whenever my lungs hurt, I stop smoking completely for a few weeks but eat plenty of edibles :-) Makes the break much more endurable for me anyway. |

I've stopped completely because I'm taking care of my mother and I can't sleep too deeply or I won't wake up and take care of her in the night. Man, anybody who thinks MM doesn't work for arthritis is out of their tiny little mind, my body reminds me everyday now, just how well it did work. As for sleep... there is just nothing like it. For me it's medicine not a party, and I'm so telling you for sleep and arthritis there is just nothing like it. |

Vaping has been the way for my lungs to recover. I vape about 70% now and smoke 30%. Less coughing and lungs feel better. When I vape I ice cool with bong and this seems to help me cough less from the vape (a vapor bros will still make me cough). This be my experience. Oh, and I NEVER use lighters anymore. Those bics will destroy your lungs and the flavor on your meds...

Rep Power: 9 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? i took a break at the beginning of this year for about 4 months, i can't say i didn't think about mmj during that break, but it wasn't as hard as i expected. the few days or weeks before i started up again were a little harder though, because i was really looking forward to medicating again and having a great night's sleep and being anxiety-free. but like someone mentioned, if you want to take a break for your lungs, edibles are a great alternative. |

Rep Power: 80723 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? I've only been smoking MMJ since the beginning of April this year, but have already taken several short breaks from it in that time, from 1 day, to 2 or 3 days, and one break for 6 days. The longer breaks had more to do with traveling than need, but all the breaks felt like they were good for my body. When I medicate, it is only once a day, and only 2 or 3 tokes (depending on the strain). I medicate for the chronic pain in my back and neck, and for anxiety and depression. For me, personally, it feels like the benefits of MMJ sometimes can and do last through a break of a day or two. Well, that's my experience. It will vary for each of us. I think the advice of the edibles that other folks here have already mentioned is a good one for you to at least try while you give your lungs a break, if you should feel the need to medicate come on strongly. I will share a little bit more that when I first got my MMJ, I tried just eating a portion of the bud (I'm a guy, what can I say?), because I wanted to see if I could get enough of a medical effect without going back to smoking the herb (I smoked MJ many years ago for a number of years). So, the first day's results seemed lukewarm to me. I smoked it the next day, and going back to the "old days" approach, I had about 6 hits. I learned fast, that was too large a dose. Now the 2 to 3 tokes does me just fine, and gives me much more medical effects than eating the herb, in much less amount of herb needed for smoking than I ate. So, it's more cost effective as well as medically more effective for me to smoke. But my body, and mind, still seem to like a 1 to 2 day break from it now and then. Rep Power: 933 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? I too have been smoking MMJ since April 08 with a 6 day & a 3 day break. I smoke daily about .5 to 1.0 gram/d. Day 1- Sucks, can't eat, stomach hurts, IBS. Day 2- Irritable, short tempered. Tired. Day 3- Pissy, irritable, but starting to feel better. Lost 7lbs in 5days last time I had a 6d break. I fast for the first 24hrs with lemon water & soups & some fruit, but I don't eat much for those 3d. Marijuana promotes edema in tissues so I'm retaining more water in my body when I am smoking, so when I stop, my body just purges all that fluid out. With the water loss & the fasting I feel more healthy, BUT it is a bitch for those 3 days. At the 6th day I was ready to kill for a toke, but the longest break this yr (6 weeks) I felt NORMAL after 2 weeks. |

Rep Power: 1680 | Re: Taking a break from using cannibus? I have been smoking for about 2 yrs. A patient for about 1 1/4. So that 3/4 of a year and some time as a patient i had some pretty bad smoking habits. But anyway after getting nausea and stomach discomfort more frequently than usual this earlier this week i decided i needed to take a break. The only other break i've taken is a 1 day break about 9 months ago. Today was day 5 since i stopped. Heres how my first few days went after stopping. Day 1: Absolute no appetite after waking up. Moderate stomach discomfort. Mild nausea. Pretty restless at night. Wake up sort of sweaty sometimes during the night. Coughing out bits of black specs sometimes during the day Day 2: Waking up less naucious. Still stomach discomfort and forced myself to eat. Only could handle some toast. Losing some weight. about 2 or 3lbs a day. Day 3: Mornings are more manageable and its starting to become easier to eat. Later in the day i actually gained an appetite. No more coughing up things. Day 4: Woke up ate breakfast like a normal person. Later than day, felt chest pains until the next morning. Thought i had a problem. Went away the next morning. Slept well that night though. Day 5: (Today) - Feeling much better. Not tired and able to eat, exercise and do what i need to do at home. Just as if i was medicated. I think taking a break is sort of refreshing. I really feel like my body needed it. I think i'm going to do this once a year for at least a week. |

Yeah so I was off for 2 days & lost 7lbs in those 2 days. But, when I came back only after 2 d, WOW. It hits harder & longer. I'm always pleasantly surprised.
