Rep Power: 11 | Prior to my habitual use of medical marijuana, I was notorious amongst my friends for having the most far-out, detailed and trippy dreams that anyone could ever have...it was a highlight of all wake and bake road trips to school...I'd get in the car, take a rip, and begin with, "Dude, last night,............" and proceed to tell a 10 minute long story about what I had dreamt the night before. It was so much fun, I'd have them laughing their asses off, or totally shocked, or whatever have you, in addition to sparking up their memories of their own dreams, all in all great conversation and introspection amongst friends. However, after about 4 years of continuous use, I gradually began to remember less and less of my night adventures, until finally, they became nonexistent. I had been smoking pot for so long, and the dream loss had happened so gradually, that I never correlated the two. Pot smoking, to me, had always had nothing but postive affects on my psyche, and thus, my lack of dreaming simply could not have had anything to do with my lack of REM...or so I though. It wasn't until I took a much needed break from the herb (I had a bad case of black lung and was coughing up a whole lotta you know what) that I began to start recalling my dreams again. After my cough and throat began to patch up, I started smoking again, habitually....and once again, my dreams became nonexistent...it was then that I realized that smoking pot was keeping me from dreaming! I've mentioned this to several of my friends who smoke every day, and a lot of them were totally shocked when they recalled their history and found that they too had not been dreaming since their habit formed. Now, I know for a fact that the REM phase is supposed to be the point in the sleep cycle where you are in your deepest state of sleep, and thus the most reparative. So, is this to say that pot smoking keeps one from reaching that deep slumber?..or that it just represses one's ability to recall? Let me know what you think. |

| Re: Pot Smoking = Dreamless Sleep There is a study and its a fact that if you medicate before bedtime , you are prone to dream far less . Myself I found I do not dream hardly ever , compared to before I started to smoke marijuana . You sleep more sound and deep on mj . |

I also forgot to mention in the original thread that smoking sativas seems to keep dreams going...it is mainly on an indica streak that I get that super heavy sleep without dreams. That being said, indicas really aren't my thing anymore... Hence my name, SuhTeeVah

Rep Power: 11 | Re: Pot Smoking = Dreamless Sleep Interesting...I guess it is safe to say that, as with most every medication available, everything is a personal matter, as people have different chemistries, compostitions and reactions to things. I think that among the many research topics that are going on in the name of medical marijuana, that usage correlated to sleep patterns would be a very worthwhile study. |

A Sad Byproduct Of An Abusive Childhood. I Hate My Dreams. Anyway, As A Long Time Mmj User ( Approaching 30 Yrs.) I Rarely Dream ( Thank God ). I Have However Found, That When I Went Thru Rehab For Meth, 3 Times At The V.a. Hospital. Each And Every Time I Was Sober From Mmj, I Had Awful Dreams & Slept Like Shit. ( Of Course The V.a. Was More Than Happy To Prescribe A Half Dozen Pills I Could Take For The Sleep / Anxiety ) No Thanx !!!! I Am Of Course Sober From Meth Now, August Is 3 Years, And I Feel Great. I Dont Dream Much At All, And I For One, Dont Miss Them- Great Thread, Very Bold & Thought Provoking, Kudos- Steve-o |

SEEMS AS THOUGH MMJ WORKS QUITE EFFECTIVELY AS A DREAM SUPPRESSANT, FOR THOSE OF US THAT DESIRE THAT. NEVER GAVE IT ALOT OF THOUGHT BEFORE, BUT I GUESS IT'S JUST ONE MORE WAY THAT MMJ HAS IMPROVED MY QUALITY OF LIFE !! GOD BLESS MOTHER NATURE !! STEVE-O

On a side note now that I have given some good thought to it, I also find that I do not dream as much as I used too. I know they definately are not as vivid as I have had in the past.

Congrats on kickin the monster to the curb, that takes willpower of the highest degree... So at this point it is safe to say that we are at about a 50/50 rate of people who do and do not dream after smoking...what else is interesting is that within this 50/50 is another 50/50 of those who enjoy and don't enjoy the dreamless sleep...

I smoke purps before bed and I dream all the time. regular dreams, vivid dreams, good and bad dreams. I don't always remember the details of my dreams but i do remember dreaming, cannabis has no effect on my dreaming at all. the only time i don't get into REM sleep is when i'm having one of those nights when i wake up every hour or i just can't fall asleep at all (no matter how much i smoke!) much love spacey ![]()

When I had to kick meth, the first few days were like hell. I would have some crazy bad dreams and a fever throughout the night. I'm glad that i kicked that shit outta my life a long time ago, and happy that my bros here kicked that shit too. As for dreaming, I believe i lost my dreams after the years of medicating, becuase i don't dream anymore. I've been thinking that its related to the meds also.

| Re: Pot Smoking = Dreamless Sleep I forget the exact numbers but cannabis is suppose to raise your melatonin levels by like 400%, which I think is taken into account for the "burnout" some smokers get. I think it would also do a lot to your dreams. Personally I used/use cannabis to suppress my dreams when I have episodic nightmares caused from PTSD or general anxiety, stress, and my health habits not being up to par. |

They say its not good to eat before you sleep. But its the only thing that will make me sleep, a big dinner and a couple BhO hits.. |

Rep Power: 291 | Re: Pot Smoking = Dreamless Sleep I agree with a lot of you!!!! Very thought provoking thread!!!! buuuuuuuuuutttt.... This sounds like a lot of "jibby-jab" nonsense!!! I mean correct me if Im wrong PLEASE!!!! but everyone dreams!! its called REM sleep and it happens everynight reguardless of what you smoke... in fact, isnt it impossible to exist without REM sleep.>? I've smoked everyday all the time for years!!!!! no problem in the dream department.. depending on what hour or particular cycle of sleep I've woke up during; usually effects my recollection of that dream.... sometimes I dont remember shit ...sometimes its very lucid |

I've never been so lucky as to be able to escape dreams - they're like a shadow sewn onto my feet. No matter what type of "medication" I try, they don't go away. I thought with MMJ names like Herojuana and Coma I'd have better luck, but nooooooo... Dream journaling did make them go even more crazy vivid for a while tho - with more lucid dreams too - so I stopped doing that pretty quickly
