Rep Power: 0 | City tours GLACA Collective City Officials Tour a GLACA Accredited Facility Members of the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee along with other city officials toured a registered, licensed and tax paying medicinal cannabis collective today. Council members Reyes and Zine were among the party that visited Purelife Alternative Wellness Center a facility certified by the Greater Los Angeles Caregivers Alliance as a facility that provides safe, reliable access to cannabis medication. Earlier this year, the PLUM Committee heard arguments from advocates expressing their concerns about the draft ordinance proposed by the City Attorneys office. This draft ordinance was rejected by GLACA and other advocates as it failed to recognize the legal storefront facility and any of the input provided by the Medical Marijuana Working Group. Councilmember Ed Reyes, Chair of the PLUM Committee, called for a meeting in his office where he, advocates and other city representatives discussed the proposed ordinance in further detail. During that meeting the city officials requested a tour of a registered, licensed facility so that they may be better educated on the issue. We were pleased that the city had chosen a GLACA accredited collective to visit so that they could see a good model of what can be accomplished with the proper regulations. Purelife is a perfect example of the law abiding, store front facilities that California Attorney General discusses in his guidelines. Purelife Alternative Wellness Center is a collective that has operated in the true spirit of California medicinal cannabis laws and has been a accredited member of the Greater Los Angeles Caregivers Alliance since 2006. Facilities accredited by GLACA, such as Purelife, have agreed to follow a strict set of operational protocols that were developed to ensure safe access for southern California patients. GLACA members will continue to advocate to the PLUM Committee and members of the city council to adopt permanent regulations by speaking at City Council and Committee meetings in the weeks to come.
