well, it's back to the grind for old spacey today. gotta finish the last two rooms of the last vacancy.
so here's today's riddle and i will see you all as soon as i get home from work.

Art Bragg, Colonel Blackhead, and Dr. Prod were swapping war stories at the Soul-Ace Hotel. Art loved to recall how he won his medal when he and one of his carrier pigeons saved a platoon from certain ambush. "As you may or may not know," began Art, "carrier pigeons are able to fly in excess of 70 kilometers per hour for a number of hours. As it happens, I was at our temporary headquarters when we intercepted an enemy transmission about an imminent ambush on our advancing troops. Immediately I attached the warning message to my prize carrier and sent him off to warn the platoon. WIthin hours, my carrier returned with a message that the troops would hold their position until reinforcements arrived."
"What a load of nonsense that is!" snorted Colonel Blackhead.

Why do ya think he said that?

Today we have a BONUS question (I actually meant to post it yesterday)...

the message sent, said nothing about sending reinforcement.also, the colonel raised pigeons when he was young, and knew on the average, a pigeon could only fly about 30 or 40 mph for several hours at a time. the numbers didn't add up, this was nothing new, bragg did just that, while the doctor, prodded blackhead. just another day.

I suspect that the carrier pigeon only flies home to it's cage or nest. It cannot fly back so the other bird was impersonating the first bird.

Indeed you are right! a carrier, or homing pigeon only flies back to it's home, it can't go back the way it came. fascinating stuff!

the answer to the bonus question is the letter "E".

happyjack and rix both also got this one right - HJ did send me a PM - i guess he thought maybe i wouldn't watch the videos but oh i did and i really did enjoy em a LOT! i have to get that song, HJ - so who the heck is it? you got ME stumped on that one.

hey tokermom - sorry but i thought this one was an easy one... carrier pigeons are just homing pigeons. tricky one huh? i have a few that are a tad easier, we can end the week with them.

happyjack - those people are freaking AMAZING! spiderman got nothing on those guys at all except some secretions (ok, his web!) and it looks to me like they didn't need no steenking webs. i saw a segment on some tv show about the people who do that, there's even a name for it but i can't recall it right now.
anyway thanks so much for the videos, i had a really rough day at work and i needed a good laugh.
