Rep Power: 556076 | By no means am I'm a wine connoisseur (more like an appreciator) but I'm sure we have some on here.... If that's you, how did you get started with wine culture? What have been some of your most enjoyable tastes? |

Rep Power: 26606 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! neither are great, but both drinkable. the clos du bois will be smoother than the fetzer. both are mass-market wines that appeal to people who don't drink much wine. you will probably enjoy them, but they won't blow your socks off. |

Rep Power: 26606 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! it depends on what you like to drink and if you will be drinking it on it's own or w/ food. i like to cook, so i often choose my wines based on what i'm going to be eating. but, i also like to drink wine because it tastes great, it's relaxing and i enjoy drinking it. for me, wine is often about good friends, good food and good times. |

Rep Power: 26606 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! FYI----- a great new wine shop just opened up this week in Hollywood on Melrose by La Brea. they will be stocking lots of interesting wines @ very competitive prices including a nice selection of under $10 wines (which is very good news for those of us who drink wine daily). http://domaine547.com/ i haven't gotten over there yet, but probably will next weekend after i get paid ;) ! some of my other favorite LA area wine shops are: K&L - on vine just south of sunset by the arclight silverlake wines - on glendale blvd. in the rockaway plaza topline wine & spirits - on san fernando road in glendale (GREAT prices/GREAT selection---much cheaper than costco or bevmo) colorado wine co. - on colorado blvd. in eagle rock mission wines - on mission st. in s. pasadena for those who are interested in learning more about wine and/or attending wine tastings, K&L, silverlake wines, colorado wine co., and mission wines all have |

Rep Power: 7473 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! When I was 21 I worked @ a 4 star ski resort in Canada. I was a waiter and banquet worker ( and skier in offtime). The restaurant liked to feature different wines and thoroughly trained the waiting staff. I took to it well. The "somelier" position was kind of an open position... whoever was most experienced on the floor. More often it turned out to be me. I thoroughly enjoyed researching the wines , the grapes used where it was from and how to describe the flavors in wine. That was the beginning. Now the wife and I try to head up to the Santa Ynez valley a couple of times a year. As well the middle daughter goes to Sonoma State so we really take some time to enjoy Sonoma and Napa when visiting. I would recommend for anyone to go on a wine tasting tour. If all you've ever had is stuff you've bought @ Ralph's , it will help you determine what is a quality wine and what flavors you like. I wouldn't be intimidated to go if yur a wine noob. It's absolutley the best way to learn about vino. You might have wine snobbery if you went to France, but in Cali , everyone is cool and laid back. All the servers at the winery are well educated 'bout their product and easily accomodate noobs and vets. I like to have a glass of wine while pulling some lungfulls through the skull of visions. I think that there should be wine recommendations/pairings for weed like is done with food. Initially I think it should be Red Wines with any "Purple" strain, White Wine with any "White" strain (ie. white widow) and Rose' for everything else. Whaddaya think? |

Rep Power: 17825 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! I am just beginning to gain an appreciation for wine.... I have cultivated a preference for reds in most occasions unless it is a hot day or the meal calls for white. I like drier reds mostly and usually avoid any sweet wines. One of the tastiest wines I have ever tried was in Cape Town, South Africa. There they have a type of reds called "Pinotage" and there was one variety that had a chocolate flavor to it. The chocolate was not overtly sweet or bitter but was nicely balanced in the dry grape flavor. While drinking it I couldn't help but imagine how nice a bowl of some GDP or Blueberry, or some other nice fruity flavorful herb, would be. :) |

Rep Power: 19706 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! smoke, sip, blow .dessert wines do it for me got a sauterne( chateau rieussec 2001) rated at 100 pts wine spectator in the wine fridge, still waiting to break it out when i get a really good batch of northern lights special which can match it head to head in flavour i suppose ill bust it out. I started really getting into it with my old gf we would get a nice bottle of bonny dunn muscat grape wine for 10 a 1/2 bttle and dip our tounges in it like lil hummingbirds till it was gone alouis kracher is good, some of the 5 putanos ,washington ice wines hit and miss one of the recent vintages was awsome though. the good stuff leaves a taste that hangs in your mouth for many minutes evolving along the way. absoulutly like a nice dry style wine with food take a tiny sip with a bite yum yum |

Rep Power: 6160 | Re: Wter Wine Lovers! I love drinking wine. I never really liked it until i visited my friend studying abroad in Italy. I would drink it just to drink it, like most young college students. While in Italy, it's custom to drink wine with dinner, a lot of it, so i developed a taste for it. We would just get the restaurants house red and it would be great every time. After i got home from that trip i started to drink wine often, and after i turned 21, enjoyed experimenting and finding new styles of wine to drink. Although that journey was short lived and i haven't had a sip of alcohol in many months and probably won't really drink much the rest of my life, my favorite is still a nice real Italian chianti |
