Rep Power: 261063 | *sugar, the mark of cane...* nostalgia is old as adam. longing for the days of milk and honey..?!? but, wait..!!! we live in the days of sugar and pasteurization. the process that sugar under goes is similar to how heroin is made. in the garden of eden, there was no sugar, except what you found naturally occuring in the fruits and veggies, and humans lived for many years, off the bounty of the earth.... enter sugar: slavery, war, disease, addiction, tooth decay in infants, profit$ profit$ profit$....... i have been able to deal with all my demons, alcohol (12 years of my life drunk), heroin (about a good year run, eeww), cigarettes (a good majority of the drinking years), but, sugar, it has been the hardest. i'm on to the cure i believe, and that cure is called "honey"...... honey is a perfect, super food..!!! i believe that is time for humanity to go back to the land of milk and honey, and one of the best ways to do this is, become a "localvore", go to your local farmers markets and start buying your foods local, fresh and "seasonal". seasonal is the ticket, your body knows better than your brain, believe me people (just turn the tv on, for a contrast to what i speak). i'm challenging myself again, and again (it seems), with the "no" processed sugar life. and with honey, honey comb and bee pollen i see a light at the end of the sugar blues tunnel. diabetes is a annual growing epidemic, and it is from processed demon sugar in the peoples diet, hey, you need a snack..?!? you run down..?!? reach for a phuckin snickers, but, whom do you think is really doing the snickering, especially when you look into the mirror, i'll guarantee it wont be you doin the snickering, most likely your neighbor, or your phucked up boss.... you can replace sugar in any recipe with honey, just reduce the amount in half (or a smidge more than half), reduce the cooking temp by 5 degrees, and it may cook alittle faster..?!? oh yea, it adds moisteure to the item, so reduce the water just a scosh, and honey helps preserve, naturally .... perhaps in this thread we can dialog, and share our failures and triumphs, and share some recipes for yummy foods, made with care and understanding. honey can help with allergy's, it's good for burns, arthritis, and great to drizzle all over a significant other :001_wub:.... if you seek freedom from the evil clutches of sugar, and the men who make it, this blessing is for "you".... piece of honey cake Last edited by kennabis; 06-11-2009 at 07:37 AM.. |

Rep Power: 36071 | Honey is an excellent 'sweet' source ,but like anything else must be used in 'moderation' ~ too much honey at one time , can affect insulin processing just like concentrated white sugar ~ ''whole fruit'' is prolly 'safest' source for sweet taste ~ any 'concentrated' source ,ie.,'fruit juice' (undiluted) ,will affect body's insulin production/emotional extremes just as sugar itself ~ that is all Last edited by silvercloud; 06-12-2009 at 05:35 AM.. Rep Power: 261063 | Re: *sugar, the mark of cane...* for sweets low on the glycemic index you gotta try agave nectar..!!! i eat honey more sparingly, and have mostly been using the agave nectar as a sugar substitute. honey is a predigested super food, and once a "sugar person" gets a hold on the "over do it syndrome", one can be satisfied with way less... lick the sugar habit (i was suggested this book today by cola nut) |

nature(honey) versus/ kraft, As per the product's ingredient list, it is made of: "CORN FLOUR AND BRAN BLEND (CORN FLOUR, WHOLE GRAIN CORN FLOUR, CORN BRAN), SUGAR, WHOLE GRAIN OAT FLOUR, HONEY, SALT, YELLOW 5, BHT ADDED TO PACKAGING MATERIAL TO PRESERVE PRODUCT FRESHNESS. VITAMINS & MINERALS: NIACINAMIDE (B VITAMIN), REDUCED IRON, ZINC OXIDE (SOURCE OF ZINC), VITAMIN B6, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), FOLIC ACID (B VITAMIN), VITAMIN B12, VITAMIN D." Recently, "Bran Blend," defined as whole grain corn flour and corn bran, has been added to the ingredient list. This has tripled the fiber content (from originally 1g to 3g per serving) and put the cereal in Kraft's Sensible Solution program. | |

Rep Power: 261063 | Re: *sugar, the mark of cane...* i almost wrangled up my first hive the other day, but, i was a little late, and for good reason, the job was bigger than i could of tackled, the bee's had gotten into a wall of a building and they had been there for a long time, honey was seeping out of the walls, whoa...... whole foods came from the root "holy" food, and sugar is not a "whole" food, it is also not "holy", honey on the other hand (if raw) is a super food, and has the highest concentrates of enzymes than "any" other food, period. |

Rep Power: 145667 | Re: *sugar, the mark of cane...* Funny I have found the same thing myself. Alcohol no problem stopping after many many years of hard drinking (seriously when your job involves being in a nightclub/bar 3+ nights a week every week, you tend to drink a lot). Cocaine also not an issue, stopped cold turkey after an 8 ball a day habit of 3 years, I decided I didn't like it anymore. MMJ, if I don't hurt I tend not to smoke it. But Sugar! Not possible, actually wrote a song about it a few years ago. Like you Kennabis I eat a lot more honey then sugar anymore - did you know it is also a natural antibiotic, and was the foundation of the ancient Egyption's medicine? Heals cuts faster than neosporin, if messier - but I have not been unable to quite entirely. Part of the reason is I am Hypo-glycemic and require about 2-3 times the amount of sugar that a normal person does. The other part is I simply cannot stop! I crave nothing as bad as a crave the taste of highly refined sugar in high doses (I only eat gummies and ultra sour candies by the pound, or pure sugars like caramel....yum caramel.....and was like this before MMJ it is not the munchies). Personally I think sugar is one of the most dangerous and addictive substances out there. Don't even get me started on how much soda I drink,......seriously I have gone years without touching a glass of water, or fruit juice, not bragging just admitting to a very real problem that only gets worse as I near 40, first drink every morning for over 20 years now is a can of Pepsi or Coke, can't wake up otherwise, groggy, really bad mood......sugar withdrawals are very real at least for me. Everything tastes horrible, I stop being hungry, and develop a scary fast hair trigger to my (very bad) temper. If the Gov really wanted to help us, they would get rid of sugar-especially corn syrup which is particularly crap. |
