Good news and bad news, pot smokers. Marijuana contains highly-effective antibiotics that could be the key to stopping antibiotic-resistant bacteria. But unfortunately if you smoke the stuff, you become more vulnerable to infection — probably due to smoke damage in your lungs. Nevertheless, your prescription for medical marijuana just got a lot more useful.

New research confirms that molecules found in pot called cannabanoids are powerful antibiotics. According to Environmental Graffiti:


Scientists studying cannabis related antibiotics were now able to pinpoint the basic backbone structure that is common to all cannabanoids, to be the active component in killing off bacteria. Now that the bio-active section of the cannabanoid molecules has been identified, researchers and drug makers are busy developing and testing antibiotic drugs as well as considering potential uses for cannabanoids in various soaps and cleaning products. At present they are focusing their efforts on the derivatives of the non-psychoactive cannabanoids. This is presumably because the US FDA, and other governing bodies world-wide, might have a hard time with people getting high in order to cure a bacterial infection.

But aren't people with really bad infections the ones who are most in need of a good high? I mean, think about it. When you're sick, you're usually so out of it that all you can do is sit on the couch and watch all the episodes of True Blood stored on your DVR. Wouldn't a nice buzz make that experience better in every possible way?

I certainly agree with this as I seem to never get sick. I atribute this to consitantly having marijuana in my blood. I don't smoke with a lot of people as well. My girlfriend used to get sick all of the time and she has marijuana (from me) always in her blood and whadayaknow....She doesn't get sick any more. I recommend organic herbs though...Huge difference than the chemical drenched buds that are going around....

I havent read this thread but i believe this. This one time i was talking to jack herer and this guy was telling me about these lesions in his leg cause of diabetes i think. And he was saying how he condences ounces and ounces (16 or so) to a type of hashy salve that he applied to his cuts and they healed . So yeah makes sense. Straight from the man himself. Good smokes.

Marijuana is an amasing antibiotic.
Half of my rec is for ibs the other is for staph.
Its the only thing that will stop my antibiotic resistant form of staph.
The other great thing about it is that it doesn't work less every time you use it.
Its effectiveness has never wained for me, even with everyday smoking or eating
in addition to occasional topical usage.
On top of that it doesn't screw up your bodies natural bacteria to the same degree as pharmacutical antibiotics.
I totally suggest it for antibio purposes.

hmmmm, that would explain the lack of me being sick, and the fact that when I AM sick, Cannabis provides EXCELLENT relief, almost to the point where I forget im sick and have to remind myself haha
