Rep Power: 20 | I have lost a lot of weight and am continuing to do so, however, when I medicate I sometimes have an almost overwhelming appetite that is a real challenge to keep in line. I have surrounded myself with lower calorie and lower fat alternatives and that seems to help. For example, I used to eat an entire pint of Ben & Jerry, and now I eat a few fat free fudgesicles, which seem to do the trick now, and they are pretty good. Also, I drink a lot of water before I smoke and that seems to help as well. Would any of you care to share your solutions or mitigations to the munchies? Thank you so much. |

| Re: Help with Munchies My technique has always been to smoke before eating a real meal. So for example if I medicate at night, I wait until I'm about to eat dinner. Then after I'm medicated, when I have dinner it has the psychological effect of satisfying the munchies while I'm not actually eating anything extra. In theory it works pretty well. The other thing is to throw ALL the stuff out of your house that you shouldn't be eating. Don't even have those cookies or soda around since inevitably they'll get eaten. (Unfortunately in our house this just means we order in. Not good!) I think the fudgsicles are a good substitute. Ideally you'd give up sugar altogether (it SUCKS for the first few days but gets much easier very quickly) but if you need to have something ice cream-like, it's way better than a pint! I have them around sometimes for exactly that reason but they are dangerous for me when I'm medicated. They seem to...wander off...or something. ;) |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Help with Munchies There is always the ability to exercise one's will power to not satisfy that munchies sensation. I'm sure it's even possible to condition yourself to not get hungry after smoking. The human brain is a wonderful thing. Eating dinner/breakfast/lunch after you smoke or lower calorie treats are good too if you just need that fix. :) Last edited by bunkacid; 01-11-2008 at 05:39 PM.. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Help with Munchies Thanks for your advice very much. I realize that many people here smoke to increase their appetite; however, when I posted this question I thought that I would get more replies. This suggests to me that controlling the munchies must be a real challenge to many here. Love you all! |

I also tell myself the food will kill the effects of the meds. Hope that helps. Much love Ivy |

Rep Power: 727 | Re: Help with Munchies Well, I use MMJ to stimulate my appetite. But once a year I do need to suppress my appetite, and MMJ helps me through it. But that has nothing to do with your question. So to answer your question, having good foods around rather than junk food is one way to help. Keep things like bags of baby carrots, unsalted nuts (peanuts, almonds, cashews, pistachio's), yogurt, celery and peanut butter. All of these make great, yummy substitutes for the cookies and snacks we all crave. These foods will have a tendency to fill you up more than sugary foods and are better for you. If you really want cookies or other junk food, but the packs with individual servings. Having only one serving in front of you cuts down on temptation. Without the temptations you will eat less of those junk foods. There is still some will power involved, but it is less. The popsicles are a good idea, single servings of something sweet. The biggest problem with buying a pint of Ben and Jerry's is that once you open it you want to eat as much as you can, if you have only a single serving in front of you, you feel like you ate a whole snack and there is nothing left over to tempt you. I hope this helps a bit. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Help with Munchies I personnally need to stimulate my appetite as well, but I have many friends with your same problem. Like many have said in other replies keeping more healthy foods in your house always seems to help as well as smoking before a meal. That is the only way I can get a meal down sometimes. But when munchies do occur I like to be able to give in a nd have a healthy treat. There are many out there these days. It sucks sometimes but get in the habit of reading labels. Make sure your breads and carbs are made with whole grains. If you eat the right foods your blood sugar will stay at a better level and you will not crave bad foods as much. Hope this helps. :) |

Rep Power: 304 | Re: Help with Munchies Smoking 1/2 before a real meal is a favorite trick of mine. If you don't keep junk food snacks in the house, you can't eat them. Trust me - this really works. I only have low cal popcorn, Weight Watchers low-cal (but good!!) ice cream snacks, and baked chips. I STILL screw up plenty, but I know that not even having munchie food around helps. Also, I get a Costco veggie tray and set it out at times. You can unintentionally fill up on veggies pretty quickly, and that's never really hurt anyone. Edited to add: Water is more filling (in my experience) than diet soda. Soup is also very filling and can be very low calorie and satisfying. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Help with Munchies i would have to agree that medicating before a meal is probably the best. it sort of subsides the munchie effect and you are eating more healthy than if you were to medicate and then just eat the easiest thing to make in your refridgerator, which is usualy unhealthy anyways! |

Rep Power: 13 | Re: Help with Munchies Most "purple" indicas give huge munchies. If i smoke them i eat like crazy at night. Try eating foods with fiber and protein because they make you feel full. Also, a cup or 2 of green tea is healthy and the caffeine lowers your appetite |

Rep Power: 5975 | Re: Help with Munchies A lot of time MMJ actually suppresses my appetite. Other times, I've noticed that the munchies go away if I'm doing something, like playing basketball, doing yard work, sex or other physical activities. When I'm just sitting around watching a flick or something, I get the munchies sometimes. Fruit usually fits the bill -- sometimes a bowl of cereal. Sometimes I just need some salty, crispy things though. Try home made chips -- corn tortillas with olive oil and salt baked in the oven. Eat them warm. So much better than store bought chips and way better for you. They are righteous with home made salsa too. |

Rep Power: 36781 | Re: Help with Munchies Major congrats on the weight loss!!! I've found that keeping an active lifestyle significantly helps in curbing the munchies for me. 30 minutes of cardio at least 3-5 times a week helps me out psychologically in that it makes me want to eat healthy and less. Water is a VERY good munchie suppressant as well. And if you gotta eat, load up on nutritious fruits and veges. What I also do is, like what everyone else is saying, I smoke right before a meal. I wish nothing but continued success in weight loss and an all around new healthy lifestyle. |
