Cool Whats up with all these hero movies ?

Lately, almost all the movies that are comining out are hero movies, and there all the same history of the hero, the vilan and the same ending off course, and to make it worse they continue a second and third part and so on....Even if there all the same thing they still make a million dollars
I like hero movies .... but not that much ! maybe once in a year or even twice !
What do u think ?

Re: Whats up with all these hero movies ?

I just got back from Comic-con and I honestly can not get enough of the hero movies. I think the reason why they are so successful is that most -people want to see now a days is special affects and action. And of course, Hollywood is going to produce what ever makes money. Another thing about the hero movies is that there isn't ever just one story to any of them. A lot of them have decades of different situations and scenarios. I can understand how it can get played out though. I actually sat through a really awesome panel on James Camerons new movie Avatar. They showed like 30 minutes of it, and I was completely blown away by the affects. I can tell that he and Peter Jackson totally stepped up the game and we are now going to see a new evolution of special effects. That movie I think shys away from the hero theme, so maybe that will start a new trend of movies.

Re: Whats up with all these hero movies ?

The monomyth cycle (hero narrative) has and probably will be apart of our culture, literature, and all art forms for as long we exist. It's common to all of humanity.

Star Wars is an excellent example of the hero narrative and it set the standard for big blockbuster hero movies. And while Star Wars was a phenonmenal addition to movie cinema we're currently left with a shitty trend of Michael Bay-esque films. But I kinda agree with you MedX. While some 'hero movies' are worth the time and money, most are not. Say what you will about Transformers but to me that's a prime example of this problem. People are so easily entertained by hot chicks, loud explosions, uber masculine fantasy themes and cringe inducing scripts.

Yes, I know one can only judge a movie based on what it's trying to do and yes, action movies do a very good job at action. They're supposed to entertain and thrill you. But that standard seeps into other genres and after a while it becomes intellectually insulting to have to accept that crap as entertainment. That's not the artistry we deserve. Movies as an art form can offer us so much more. And the people that can do it are out there. But alas, the money isn't. Or not as much in comparison to 'hero movies'.

Man I totally agree with you. I'm not much of an action film fan. I happen to like more films from the art house genre because they ooze with more creativity and originality. I feel that anybody could film things blowing up and have mundane script in which a boy is introduced into a bizarre situation and he deals with the situation and wins the girl. And between all that, there are explosions. The end. To me that is not what film is all about. But what can we do. Society doesn't want films like that. So hence, there is no money for it.

But I will say District 9, which should be classified as an action film I guess, looks intriguing. So does Inglorious Basterds.

Great video BTW

Re: Whats up with all these hero movies ?

I like every movie, except bad movies (Ha! like that tells you anything!)

The 1st X-men movie was fun, after that.....3 was atrocious...

Spidey's were good but 3 overshot itself, the 1st Hulk was crud, the new was fun....

But in general I gotta say, Superhero movies rule! Let me believe in a world where good triumphs and people can fly...cool....

But then I'm a freak, for instance, if I had a genie and 3 wishes, my first would be for the entire world to function like a musical...think about it, singing chorus lines forming around random conversations at work...pianist's wheeling into your living room turning an argument in to a ragtime song....sounds like a sweet place to live to me.....

the 2nd wish would be to be able to fly, and the 3rd would be for a bong monkey....heh, bong monkey....
