August 28, 2007 -- A distraught Owen Wilson was found bloodied and dazed after trying to commit suicide by overdosing on pills and slitting his wrist in the wake of a bitter blowup with a close pal, a source told The Post yesterday.


The tow-haired, Tinsel town hunk was discovered at home by a stunned family member Sunday.

"It's hard. He's such a wonderful person," one source said. "He's such a great guy and so smart and just . . . nice. We're just hoping he gets better."

Wilson - who was listed in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles - released a statement through his representative requesting privacy.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," said the star of "Wedding Crashers."
Cedars-Sinai spokes woman Cynthia Harding confirmed that Wilson "is here and in good condition."

The actor had been transferred to Cedars- Sinai from St. John's Hos pital in Santa Monica after having undergone detox for the apparent pill overdose and surgery to his injured left wrist.

He will likely remain under the close watch of doctors for at least the next several days, one source said.

Authorities were alerted to the apparent suicide attempt after someone called Santa Monica police, and an ambu lance raced to the home just after noon Sunday.

There were no details as to what may have caused Wilson to go off the deep end, except that the incident occurred shortly after a vicious quarrel with an unidentified friend.

Wilson's last serious romantic relationship - with beauty Kate Hudson - fell apart just before Memorial Day.

Hudson had been spotted over the weekend very publicly canoodling with handsome new love Dax Shepard, but sources insisted that it did not contribute to Wilson's emotional turmoil.

Wilson's family rushed to his hospital bedside.His older brother, Andrew, appeared worried as he left the Santa Monica house and headed to the hospital early yesterday, one neighbor said.

His famous younger brother, actor Luke Wilson, was already at the hospital, said a source. Other visitors included actor Samuel L. Jackson.
Wilson's uncle Joe, who shares a house with Owen, said, "He's fine, and the family is doing great."

One neighbor said that when she heard the ambulance, she was surprised because Wilson never causes any trouble.

"All the neighbors like him, he's a friendly guy. He never has any crazy parties or does anything wrong," Betty Miller said.

But Wilson, 38 - who always appeared to be a happy slacker type - has a dark history of depression.

"It's very upsetting. People are complicated. It's not just one thing," said a friend of the actor.

This is a mean post! You did not have to inject your opinion about his acting ability when he is obviously DOWN. I'm sure most of us appreciate his comedic timing and acting prowess. It is certainly OK for you to have your opinion, I respect it, but find another thread or outlet to bash his acting ability. What if you are right about why he attempted suicide? Does knocking a down a man when he is vulnerable make you feel better?

Oh, I'm sorry BrattonBasher! I knew I would offend somebody by saying that... I'm sure he's a nice guy... But that was the first thing I thought of when I heard he wanted to commit suicide. It had to have been his terrible acting... And no, it's not about making me feel better at all... That would just be weird...

Hell, I'm sure we've all been there and have done that. I'm not going to get personal as it's nobody's business but at one point in everybody's lives we become suicidal, some even on a few occasions in their life... No need to apologize to me, I told you I respect your opinion. But your reply to my post is much meaner than your original. You started on his acting and then you bashed mentally ill and suicidal people. You refer to Mr. Wilson as a strong man, and we can all now see that he is not. Then you make some generalizations about people who attempt suicide, and while some of your points are indeed true, not everyone fits neatly into your broad brush. Finally, I think it is oxymoronic to state what you said in the last paragraph and sign Peace and Love at the bottom. Wow! I personally have sat in hotel room overnight to help babysit someone who had just slit their wrists and I also made a 2 hour drive to help locate someone (a different person) calling from a payphone to say they just popped a whole bottle full of pills. SUICIDE IS NOTHING TO TAKE LIGHTLY!! Life is not easy, if it is you're doing something wrong. Even if they're just 'looking for attention' you have to feel for a person that hit so far rock bottom that they'd consider hurting themselves. I guess some people have compassion inherent in themselves and some don't.

If someone is down so low that they want to take their own life, my opinion is we should all be there to support them. Regardless of their talents or careers. Honestly, none of us knows whats going on in his life to make him feel so badly and my birthday wish is that we all support each other and just wish the best for those who arent doing so well. I'm sorry, maybe I'm just mean, but I don't feel sorry for people who commit, or attempt to commit suicide, I feel sorry for their family and friends... As Bratton Basher has stated, yes, my quote does say Love Life and Life will Love you. I agree, depression is a very serious illness, and just because what I said, that doesn't mean that I'm not compassionate. I have been there for people I know that have been suicidal, family and friends... Like I said in my first post, I don't want to make it personal... And yes, Owen Wilson is a strong man. I thoroughly contemplated the quality and value of my life last summer. I had just quit taking sleep medications and went into a deep, deep physical depression because I could not sleep without those toxic pills, so...not sleeping made it worse because I couldn't heal from the pills due to no restorative sleep. Finally, I rediscovered weed and I started medical marijuana before I threw in the towel. Today, I can't even fathom the notion because the medical marijuana resolves my symptoms, when it's available to me. Anyways, I understand what it takes to think about going there. However, I never went there. I just thought about it, intently. I don't know many people who haven't thought about it at one time or another. If you haven't, you'll see. You will. It happens to almost everybody. If he cut himself, either he had a good reason, or...he's stupid and a bad actor and he has weak ego and no fortitude. ha.

But, once I got to thinking about the value of my life, I said to my self ..."fuck the quality of my life. I still got something to say." Not that it meant anything deep, but it worked at the moment A few cool quotes came along at the right time. After reading this one:

I think Maynard from Tool said it best (I used to be a huge Tool fan, and now I can't remember the names of the albums or songs for the life of me) on their 4th album on song number 6 (well, it's the intro) and 7 (when the lyrics come in) ..."This chance to be, alive and breathing... we are eternal all this pain is an illusion!" It's true. Can you imagine never having the chance to live and breath? I can't, I'm glad I'm alive and breathing... Something suicidals need to contemplate on before they act on emotion.
