Inglourious Basterds

Has anyone heard of Quentin Tarantino's new film Inglourious Basterds? It's said to be inspired by the 1978 movie, The Inglorious Bastard [director Enzo Castellari]. It seems like a great spaghetti-western film and I always enjoy a Tarantino movie.

My bad, it releases August 21 [I originally said it released today]. Hehe, a little too medicated.

Does anyone else think they'll see this at some point? Or does anyone think this is slightly offensive?

Re: Inglourious Basterds

It starts next Friday. I will be in Vegas and will go see it at Red Rock with my kids on opening day. We are excited. Tarentino is one of my all time favorite filmakers. Pulp Fiction is one of the best films ever made, and would have won Best Picture if Forrest Gump had not ambled along.

This is a comedy?

Synopsis: Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz).... Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.

Pulp fiction was quite comedic. QT has a way of injecting black humor into his films.

Re: Inglourious Basterds

His movies always have black humor in them. I was only confused by the retarded/jackass/comedy statement as I never quite thought that QT's movies were primarily thought of as "comedy".

And I dunno... BP's role as Irish Mickey in Snatch was quite brilliant

Re: Inglourious Basterds

I agree, it's not a comedy per say, but will definitely have that QT humor in it. Kinda like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction weren't comedies yet had a lot of laughs rolling throughout the film. And I kinda think Brad Pitt is okay. He's taken some interesting roles lately, like Benjamin in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or Chad in Burn After Reading. And Brad Pitt also happens to be generously good looking, at least to me lol

I would definitely rush to do this. I'm not usually a star struck person but when else will you get a personal introduction to a film by Tarantino by Tarantino. This almost sounds too good to be true! Thanks for the heads up Bodhisativa

Yes it is! The dialog was captivating, as QT's dialog always is. And each character had that charismatic way about them, especially "Hans Landa", who is a complete a**hole but you can't help but love him. I especially loved the "Bear Jew", and the ending is sure to make you feel very triumphant.

I agree whole heartedly. I have not enjoyed a movie that much in a long long time.

Its not a comedy, at least I didn't think. There are some funny scenes/scenarios, but overall the movie was very engaging. And, as above, F-ing amazing.

Re: Inglourious Basterds

IMO, casting Mike Myers was the funniest thing ever. when i saw him , i honestly could not stop laughing. His character reminded me wayyyyy to much of dr. evil and some of his other amazing characters. myers is way to funny to be in a serious movie IMO. seriously though..i could not stop laughing...

I've seen this twice now and it's absolutely brilliant! Every scene has so much depth and tension, it really is his masterpiece. Even the marketing of the film is ingenious! And how remarkable is it that the greater meaning of the film has been lost on so many reviewers, not to mention fans?!

Not to sound like a fan boy, but Brad Pitt is the man! Hes a great actor, and he was funny as hell in snatch and Inglorious Basterds. Normally his accents kinda suck, but his backwoods Tennessee accent was great.

I support any movie about killin' Nazis, and Inglorious Basterds does not disappoint. Id give it 9/10 shaving off a point only for it being sooo long (though you dont notice it while its going)

Anyway you could expand on the "greater meaning" I took a small bit out of the film about sacrifice but I have a feeling I missed something...

Re: Inglourious Basterds

I would have to say that I was rather disappointed ... Not to take away from the film, it is a great film, but in my honest opinion it is not his best. I normally don't read reviews for films until after I watch the movie, because I don't like going into a movie with expectations... I made that mistake with this film, and after reading review after review stating that this was his best film ... it fell short for me. I ended up looking at my watch every 5 minutes for the latter part of the movie, wanting it to end...

Again ... it is a GREAT movie, but I was expecting more from Tarantino's "masterpiece". I love Tarantino, and Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs are still my favorites of all his films.

Go into the movie with no expectations ... other than that it is a Tarantino film that won't disappoint.
