Rep Power: 542 | Re: Conan O'Brien Yay or Nay? I love Conan; always will. The new show doesn't seem much different from his old show. The only thing I find confusing is the addition of Andy Richter as a sort of "John Melendez". I remember the old days when Andy was Conan's sidekick and sat right next to him. I liked that scenario better. It was always funny when Amy Poehler (with braces) acted as Andy's sister. |

Rep Power: 20363 | Re: Conan O'Brien Yay or Nay? I went to the taping on Thursday! It was a lot of fun! Unfortunately I had to listen to Gwyneth Paltrow drone on and on! But Joel McHale made up for that! I don't think I missed one episode during those first five years! The search for Grady is still one of the best bits ever! |

Rep Power: 4235 | Re: Conan O'Brien Yay or Nay? I miss Jerry Lester and Dagmar! [Hell, I'm not THAT old!] About Conan: I think his first week was a little shaky, but that's to be expected. I think he'll fit alright in the 11:35 spot. For me, having Conan host "Tonight" brings with it the opportunity for me to watch latenight NBC again, for the first time since May 1992. I boycotted "Tonight" when Leno got it. I didn't like how the network handled that whole thing, screwing Letterman and all. |

I think Conan is the nicest guy (for real, not just on camera) behind the mic, just ahead of Fallon. But his Tonight Show transfer was automatic and not a surprising to anyone. NBC marketed it as a big deal, and people tuned in thinking "I don't want to miss a special event". They are smooth operators, I tell you, because NBC and anything or anyone representing that company falls far below the standards of "special", and the Conan switch was a crude marketing scheme to get folks to tune in. Personally, I tuned in because I was there when Conan first got the mic after being a writer for NBC. I thought it was cool that he brought Andy back on the tonight show, and I hope he emulates that Carson/McMahon chemistry more. I'm happy for Conan, but I only tuned in for his first show. I haven't watched since, but only because there's more pressing issues to think about. As for Jon Stewart, I think people should be embarrassed admitting they watch his show. I knew Jon back in NYC when he was acting in movies and not faux news shows, and he was anything but a smart guy. Really, in real life, he is not a bright guy. If you watch his show, try to take it with an extra grain of salt. You are basically watching an actor in front of a teleprompter who occasionally throws in one-liner jokes the average person could contrive. It might seem he says important things, but mostly are asinine statements that are contradictory to American law and customs. Whatever is popular for Jon Stewart. I was happy he got his show on Comedy Central, but when he acts like a news source it is disgraceful. It's sad that businessmen and politicians feel they need to patronize this man's show. And oh yeah, his real birth name is John Leiberwitz-- Not Jon Stewart. 2cents | |

I like Conan O'Brian but more so when he had his other show...it's still pretty wierd seeing his type of humor on the Tonight show...not that he isn't hilarious but his humor can be a little twisted and I think that the old faithfuls to Jay leno will not quite get it:001_unsure: |

Rep Power: 28914 | Re: Conan O'Brien Yay or Nay? Conan is funny. I watched the first show and one more on hulu online. Not a huge tv watcher so I'll ask does anyone else see him imitating carson's delivery on the monologue? I never noticed such a resemblance/ripoff on his show when I saw it. I thought he was just paying homage or sumthin' but he has adopted a little carson swagger to him. |
