Late nights on Irvine-based KDOC TV/Channel 56 famously featured right-wing wingnut Wally George's Hot Seat and, less famously, lifelong adolescent Poorman's various programs, is about to go to pot.

Cannabis Planet, a new weekly half-hour news show, premieres at midnight July 31 and will continue at that time Thursdays and Saturdays for 13 consecutive weeks. It will cover "the merits of the cannabis plant (medicinally, industrially, agriculturally), and the benefits this plant brings to planet earth, mankind and the United States," say producers.

The show is co-hosted by West Coast Cannabis Magazine publisher Ngaio Bealum and medical marijuana activist Sarah Diesel. Horticulturist and author Ed Rosenthal, who serves as resident cannabis expert, will provide weekly growing tips. But topics will extend beyond pot as medicine or hemp as an industrial product, focusing on music, entertainment and celebrity tie-ins to the wonder plant as well.

"We are very excited to be bringing the latest in cannabis news and information into millions of living room each week," says Brad Lane, the Cannabis Planet creator and executive producer. "The show will also be available on the Internet, but we think the information is important enough to be seen on television."

When his program airs on Thursdays, it follows Rod Serling's original The Twilight Zone, creating a solid stoner hour of television.

I looked at the program listings on the KDOC website and it only shows "paid programming" starting at midnight. It would be nice if this was shown in the programming list.

Whats up! I have Dish net. but it's on a public channel. In my area,San Gabriel, its Ch.56 Kdoc. You can get the channel with digital converter no problem.

Yeah I went to put into my DVR last night (channel 29 for me on Time Warner) and it shows the time slot as paid programming.

Go to your "Guide", hit 56, move to the left into the margin you will see KDOC, its still 56 pretty easy.
Oh and anyone who watchs tv can see this as its a public station so if you have a converter box tune in!!

It will air Tonite Friday the 31st at midnite but after that every Thursday and Saturday (probably the same time) for 13 weeks, its a half hour show. Seems like it would be hard to get all the info into a 30 minute show,eh? The guy host, edits West Coast Cannabis mag.

Just saw the premiere.

A historic day for television.

Call/email KDOC to voice your support and ask that they advertise on their webpqage and promote the show. Ask that it be on earlier and be given higher production value and budget.

Am hoping it will be a great success.

I TIVO'd it and watched it twice now. It does have a few glitches here and there but at least its on the air!!
The grow tips from ole Ed were funny, what about 20 seconds? lol Anyway I'm certain there are legal ramifications to explaining exactly how to grow on regular tv stations, even though this is very local.
Did they waste enough time kibitzin' around in the opening? Kinda clumsy but maybe it'll improve. A 30 minute show should get to the point imo. Its also nice to see co-ops I haven't been to before. Until then "Same Bud Time, Same Bud Channel" dadadadadadadada Budtime!!

According to the KDOC website, their channel is carried on systems in LA County, Orange County, Riverside/San Bernadino, & Ventura -- but unfortunately, there's no sign of 'em on Cox, Time-Warner or ATT in San Diego county.

This program should also be available here -- or at the very least, it should be made available via streaming online.

I enjoyed it and will continue to watch. It's very low-budget... but still groundbreaking. The hosts are entertaining but we as viewers can see they're reading off of teleprompters. Keep watching and support their advertisers because this show has potential to educate a large audience in Los Angeles and Orange County.
