More than 4 Feet of new snow since Monday. Discovery is now open so head to the top of East for three new beginner trails and breathtaking views of the valley below. A white blanket covers the ground as far as the eye can see and there is more snow at the top than you will know what to do with. Yesterday was amazing and with the roads now open, there has never been a better time to start the weekend early.

and that's just mountain high.

I can't wait to hit the slopes tomorrow. mountain. high.

i dont ice-surf anymore, but my 3 favorite spots were/are: steamboat springs (amazing views, quaint little town), mammoth (cant do it all, not even in a week), and heavenly (gambling after a long snow sesh!). ahh, memories of medicating on the high speed quad lift. great times.

My skiis are tuned and ready, and they have 3' or better in Tahoe. No weekend sessions, though-can't take the crowds.....

Loveland is my favorite place just to go to. Breckenridge is an amazing place, just super outta the way and expensive. Steamboat is sick, Copper, Mary Jane etc etc etc....

Hah, it's a hell of a lot better than no snow at all!
besides, I didn't have to pay for my ticket, ride to the mountain, or board. And I went with a great friend!
went off the trail a few times, into the untouched pow. found a great spot for a break'n'bake, lit up the sativa jay, ate some beef jerky (a snowboarder's staple), and pounded a monster.
then proceeded to just KILLIT
it was awesome


it was a bit crowded, but what do you expect the weekend before xmas?

abasin has always left a sour taste in my mouth. i've never found much powder there (compared to other places right around the corner) even right after a snow storm.

vail is a skiers resort. a high end skiers resort. last time i went, pretty much every skier would cut me off (90% of the time making me fall) and it seemed like they were going out of their way to treat me (snowboarder) like deuce. other places the skiers and boarders that still live that rivalry up will just hit different parts of a resort. at vail, skiers own the place.

i want to go snowboarding in taho this year. I think the hill at mountain high is too small. Im from california but started boarding in colorado, ita a big difference. But taho for sure, soon, very soon.

One of the only things I miss about SoCal is the closeness of the mountains to town (90 min most of the places I lived-that's to Mt High). On the other hand, once you deal with the 3 1/2-4 hr drive, the snow in the Sierra is just breathtaking. And I gotta tell you, Mammoth is simply insane. Last season, I got first tracks on one of the runs right after about a foot or so of snow. Too bad it's 9 hours or so (that's when it's snowing, and you are in 4WD at least half the way...).

There's approx 5-6 feet up on top right now with more on the way. Better have that 4WD, though. Another storm comes in day after tomorrow......

Oh yeah, the weather guys are calling the snow level here in Santa Cruz at 1500' tonight, but it won't be more than a couple of inches, and will melt first thing in the morning. That's about 6 miles from here, and they are already getting quite a bit just to the north of here. If only there were runs........

I used to love Baldy just for the simple fact that they would reward me for ditching school. You could show your student ID and get a lift ticket for approx. $15. But that was in the early 90's.......... I must say that Tahoe has some excellent snow and I loved boarding there when I lived up North. Utah has some nice snow as well and I had a great trip to Brighton back in the day.In So Cal you really need to hit Big Bear to get some decent conditions. Mt High always iced up on me which doesn't help the tailbone one bit.

thats pretty much the only positive about abasin. but i prefer to hit high speeds in back country powder.

I've only been to mtn high out here. last real good year there was el nino.Been to brighton a few times in utah, and some of the ant hills they have on the east coast in the poconos. i want to goto mammoth, shit, this is the year to go. Weedtracker mammoth trip possibly? Definatley gonna hit up mtn high real soon.

it's been fucking great. yesterday I rode all day with my 16 y/o brother and our dad, then today I rode with them till about 2 hours before the lifts closed and decided it was time for me to go off on my own (enough being "polite" time to have some fun!)
rode with my bro for a run or two, then told him i wanted to "find a trail where I could find some pow in the trees" as an excuse to get away on my own so I could medicate

found a great lil spot, plumped my board into the pow as a makeshift bench-seat, and proceeded to hit some blue dream.

now, blue dream is a VERY Sativa strain. to the point where it almost always gives me anxiety. BUT I rode to the bottom, took another lift to the top, and proceeded to have THE BEST RIDE OF MY LIFE!
not kidding. I just TORE up that hill, even as it was beginning to get icy, blazed my own trail thru the trees, and rode non-stop from top to bottom, going as fast as I've ever gone. no joke, no exaggeration, the BEST ride of my life this far

our condo is directly across the street from the lift. walk across, hop on, and ride down. fuckin amazing.
tomorrow we have to check out. my dad tore up his shoulder falling today, my bro is getting worn out, but after ending the day like today, I wanna stay! I wish every ride could be that amazing.
we might do ONE more day of mammoth.... or maybe hit rightwood/mt high on the way back. or maybe none, since neither of them are having as much fun as i did....
but i'm hopin!:slaugh:

Breckenridge Colorado snow report packed powder, soft wind lips, some powder in local stash zones. A-basin wind scoured not yet ready for the rocky chutes. Fun in the sun light and fluffy as per Colorado norm. The best is yet to come.

I was stolen away twice for Mountain High (used up my half of my brother's and my 6-pack of lift tickets now...)
then who messages me? DOCTOR FEELGOOD!
asks if I wanted to go to Tahoe.

"do I want to go to Tahoe?" what a stupid question. the question is, CAN I AFFORD IT? no, but I'll go anyway!

we had a great weekend, about 20 people partying thurs-sunday. great shit.
