here we go again we dont need thugs in our sport its hard enough trying to get people to respect mma with out gangsters screwing it up grrr.

I really think kimbo is going to get worked in the show. After seeing his last fight, he can dish out the blows, but when he comes up against fighters who know what they are doing he has a lot to improve on.

Fighting MMA against trained fighters is a lot different then fighting some out of shape bouncer in a back yard.

I actually don't hate Kimbo Slice. I think one of the great parts of this sport is that almost anyone can be a fighter. Doesn't mean they'll be successful, but they can do it. I don't wish any ill will on ANYONE who has the balls to step into the ring/cage. They're more man than me!
I'm gonna keep my mind open and stay receptive to Kimbo and other newcomers. If he learns to be an all-around fighter and can actually get some wins against quality opponents, I'll give him all the respect in the world.

Kinda sounds like someones being a lil prejudice.....y is he a gangster? He jus has a diff type of fighting style. I think that was wrong to call him a thug & gangster.

um the fact he calls him self a street thug? and he is proud of being a street fighter which makes mma look bad because you have punks on the street that see it on the internet and tv then hurt people because they are not trained to do it sooo yeah i mean kimbo him self says he is a street thug

I say if "thugs" and "gangsters" can fight then let them. Fighting seems to give itself a bad name because it's FIGHTING. I could understand if you were upset that knitting got a bad name because gangsters were trying to become the best knitters and started making gang-related quilts, but come on. I want to see the best of the best regardless of where they come from or what they did in their past. I am also not one to try stopping people from doing, unless it personally affects me. I think if Kimbo holds it together he will become a great fighter with a greater success story than his competitors.

If you (or anyone else for that matter) wants to know how it went for Kimbo, PM me......I have a very decent source that hasnt failed me yet, and I can tell you how Kimbo did in the house.

But I wont post it in here because its a spoiler, and its not fair to those that want to wait to see it on the show.

Dana White is great at getting more eyes on his product(s) and this was a good move for generating interest for this season of the show.

Great thing about the fight game is that winning talks and bullshit walks. It will be interesting to see how things shake out for real.

Kimbo has a big upside from a marketing perspective. I like him because even though he had this gangster rep, he has been nothing but laid back, humble and polite on the show. He is willing to learn and respects others, which to me means he has good character.

He will never be elite level, but he has a puncher's chance to earn some wins against mid level competition. He just needs time to pick up on the ground game, but father time is working against him.

Imagine the pay per view records of Kimbo vs. Tito!

Hell the ref should have stopped it to save Roy's belly, he was hitting that as much as he was Kimbo. But staying out of the outrage that Kimbo lost, I think show tactics to get a fight stopped cheapen the sport. The Ref wasn't stepping in on behalf of the fighter, he was on behalf of the spectator.

However don't count Kimbo out yet, the news is Wes Sims texted from inside the house that Kimbo lost before the airing of the episode. The rumors are he will be kicked out and Kimbo will take his place. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a couple of guys were just in the house so they could get thrown out or hurt just so Kimbo could have a second chance if needed.


Edit: Also, speaking from experience, your average would be MMA fighter isn't far divorced from being a street thug if at all. Even the resonably successful ones on the regional level aren't exactly stellar examples of how to be a good person. I am not trying to over generalize, but it takes a special sort of person to go in there and want to get punched in the face and punch people in the face every day.

ya i agree from what i have seen of him on the Show he is nothing like he is portrayed even the way he has promoted him self in the past I think he really is just showing very good personal skills but he is lacking in the ground and age aspect of the sport but i have some what changed my opinion of him

yes i agree with you also he is marketing gold but if he were to act like a smart ass thug on the show like i thought he was going to do. Do to the marketing and his past interviews fights ect ect... But i will be the first to say that he has shown to be a very respectful fighter at least from what i have seen could be a a good thing for the ufc if he stays Humble IMHO the ufc needs people who just want to get in there and bang H. Alexander, James Irving they put on good fights and alot of mainstream fans only wanna see a slugfest. In order for the ufc to stay a float they need to pull fans from all places so they should have these fighters in the ufc imo

but my main reason for starting the thread in the first place was to state that imo for the ufc to keep gaining legitimacy (Much like our movement) they need to make sure the people who are Representing them are gonna be Respectful which Kimbo was not at First but now seeing him on the show I dont belive him to ba acting fake at all and he could be a great asset for marketing.


also i wanted people who dont really follow MMA to know that he will not be a title holder he doesnt have the skill set for the fighters who hold belts and with his age he wont have the time to learn he is 37 (NOT every one is Randy Coutoure) it takes years to develop a ground game i hear to many people saying oh kimbo is gonna mop up the ufc look what brock did well kimbo doesnt have 65 pounds on his competition and even brock has a ground game now with that being said WE DO need Kimbo in the ufc he puts on good fights
the ufc/ joe silva needs to match him up with people who wont lay and pray (Roy Nelson) to win a fight he needs to be in with someone who wont be afraid to stand in the pocket and trade that would make for some good ppv draws and fights all of this is just my Opinion and i ALSO have Experience in this so ya....

He's 35, and at this point been training MMA full time for over 2 years now. A lot of guys are getting courted for the "big shows" at that level of experience, just not with the level of recognition that Kimbo has at the moment.

However, in the UFC, specifically because of the cage most good wrestlers are going to be able to keep him down and controlled because of the cage more so then if he were in a ring. Honestly I think the UFC is going to limit someone like Kimbo a little more than an Org with a ring, the ring helps level the playing field for strikers a bit.

I agree that he will likely never be champion of any of the major shows, even if they were to make a 225lb and under weight class where he wouldn't be undersized he won't ever be champion.

ok he is 35 my bad but according to his last coach Bass Rutten he didnt focus on ground training and with 2 years experience in mma now that was pathetic he didnt even try to get out from under him oh well i think we will see some good fights from him

Well Roy is a good grappler, don't let that fact slip past when rating Kimbo's ground skill. I've seem plenty of guys that I would consider a good grappler, much better than Kimbo anyway, get dominated much more than he did. You take a good grappler and put them against someone who's significantly better and they are going to look like they don't know what they are doing.

I'm not saying Kimbo's ground game is good, but it's really hard to get out of side control when a 260lb guy is on top of you. This works to my advantage quite often being a 280lb guy.

I don't see Kimbo really submitting anyone in the future, although he did manager to sub Mercer which is a little bit more than Tim Sylvia can say at the moment.

But bottom line is this, if strikers like Congo and Dos Santos are in the UFC HW division Kimbo doesn't really have a place. Unless the add a weight class or he drops to 205 it's gonna be a tough road for him.

yeah why a thug or a gangster there are plenty of fighters that live ruff on the streets too "i agree kimbo needs to train more on the ground work on becoming more rounded" but has nothing to do with his persnoal life

ya i agree he is in a tuff spot and the only thing he could do is drop but he like crocop is in a tuff spot his frame is at that point where he is to small for heavy and to big for light heavy but i would like to see him try to drop
