USA Swimming suspends Phelps for 3 months

Michael Phelps’ day grew lousier by the hour on Thursday.
First he lost a major sponsor, then he got suspended.
The Olympic great was suspended from competition for three months by USA Swimming, the latest fallout from a photo that showed him inhaling from a marijuana pipe.

It's USA Swimming that banned Phelps, not the IOC. BUT, if Phelph had MJ detected in a sample by the IOC, they indeed would have suspended him.

I think its total crap what they are doing to him. All the stress he has gone through, he needs a break. It's amazing how something this small has been blown out of proportion. At the most he deserves a slap on the wrist, and sent on is way. If only he was a rapper or actor then it would of helped his career.

I think he's a fool for letting himself get caught. But, I can understand why he got banned, I mean come on people! I'm pro mmj, just like most people on this site, but it's still illegal in the eyes of the feds, so what business' and org's in their right minds are gonna back him up?

Friends and Family,

Our very own beloved athlete is currently in trouble. While enjoying himself on an extended break from swimming, Michael Phelps hit a bong. Unbeknownst to the gold medalist, he was being photographed via cell phone. Now, this whole thing has blown out of proportion and our beloved athlete is in a serious dilemma. The chaos over this mess comes more from our own public reaction rather than the photo itself.

Let's be honest, people. We all do things that would lack the respect of the entire world. We all party in our own way, and it doesn't say anywhere in the bible, koran or talmud that we have the right to criticize this young man for enjoying himself in a safe but controversial way. If you want to be scientific about it, then you should consider all of the toxins he was freeing himself of by choosing marijuana over alcohol or tobacco. That's right, not one person has ever died from inhaling or ingesting marijuana.

So, to reflect, the majority of us love to; drink, gamble, masturbate, fornicate and medicate.... while many countries and religions reject such activity! So... let's all smoke a bong for Michael Phelps tomorrow to celebrate this new realization that we all have something to be morally ashamed of.

I didn't say I agreed with the ban, I said I could understand it. He's an olympic gold medalist for *od sakes. He has an image to uphold to our youth!

if he was a rapper or movie star or someone that has an image in the worlds eye that would be one thing before the olympics, but come on before the olympics most kids did not know who he was, hell I did not even know who he was, only those in the sport would know or those that follow the sport but now it is bad.

not just that, but he does not have an image to uphold to anyone but himself. Our youth need to look up to their parents and if they have to look up to someone other than their parents, then maybe their parents need to learn how to be real parents.

now I do not know if you have kids or not, but if you dont, when you have kids are you going to quite smoking all together cause you have an image to uphold or are you going to continue.

I may get my first ever negative rep for this, but I have no problem at all with this.
This has nothing to do with local, state, or federal law at all.

What he did was break USA Swimming Team rules.
He is being treated no differently, than anyone else on any kind of team, that breaks team rules.

Heck...
If we break the rules here on Weed Tracker, we get banned.

I know everyone is quite passionate about Cannabis, but rules are rules, and if ya break em...ya gotta pay the price.

Now, with that said, I personally think that any rules against pot simply suck...but, rules are rules!

I disagree because USA Swimming only heard about this through the grapevine, and Phelps has passed every drug test he has had to take. NEVER got negative repped?????????? LOL You can have a few dozen of mine if you would like.
