The NASCAR 2009 season has begun and the Fantasy competition as well.

The Idea of Fantasy NASCAR is choosing 4 drivers prior to qualifications, then picking your 4 active drivers for the race.

Where your choices finish the race determins how many points that driver earns. Add up the points of all four drivers and you have your weeks point total.

Your performance is then compaired to the other teams and each team is ordered by highest points.

No prizes other than personal satisfaction and bragging rights, but it doesn't cost anything to play either.

Being a NASCAR fan isn't a factor in playing along and we have players in their very first season as well as others who have played for several years, so it is a fun group.

While the 2009 season has begun anyone can join at any time and while the points are difficult to make up for missed races, it is early enough it can be done or you can join and play along so as to have more experience next season, 2010...

Perhaps with more views we will gain a team or two. We are rebuilding after I joined WT'r and left a different BB where we had over 30 teams... They couldn't follow me here as they aren't patients.

I think we are listed on two other BB's...

I'm following the weather and it shows clearing for this weekend. Keep your eyes and ears open as the haulers should be arriving about now and there will be "public appearences" at local sponsor businesses.

Last year Tony Stewart did an autograph session at our local Home Depot. Not owning anything worthy of an autograph, I didn't attend, but heck it's free and if ya have kids...

Speaking of "Free" Denny Hamlin is giving away free tickets to every race, even this weekend in Pomona.

Howdy Mike...

It is and actually can become addictive.

The deadline to choose your drivers is typically Thursday night before qualifying.

If your chosen drivers qualify in the top 5 you earn bonus points, so you have several chances to assess the drivers you chose to maximize your best choices picked Thursday.

You have two practice sessions, one before qualifying and one after called "Happy Hour" so it can be very entertaining for a few days each week, not just the weekend races.

Then you have plenty of assistance too. There are 4 "pros" that are compeating against everyone and one of the pros also writes a weekly article rating each driver on past performance at the track that week, who has been hot, and his predictions...

I beat Dan the Pro last season... So, while helpful, it isn't a certanity, but a best guess.

If you think you would like to give Fantasy NASCAR a try, even tho you are short one race, it can still be fun and a chance to learn for next season too. We'd be happy to have you join in the fun and share youe experience here too.

The first few races begin to expose trends that may hold true for all the 2 mile tracks. The race concluded as advertised with Rousch taking the win and Hendrick teams looking strong, but the twist being Jeff Gordon finishing stronger than Jimmy Johnson.

Even with the newer NASCAR designed car to equalize the entire field Sunday showes the different abilities between drivers and the teams ability to adjust for the changing weather and track conditions during the three hour race.

Next weeks race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is another 2 mile oval, so it should be much the same if the teams are consistant and it looks like Matt Kenseth with back to back wins will again be tough to beat and now that Toyota is showing strength... Well, I expect a much more diverse list of winners this season over last.

Thanks Mike... Yes, I enjoyed it too until Jeff Gordon missed pit road.

Jeff was my "A" driver and my Alternate was Matt Kenseth when I knew I wanted a Roush team member.

I blame the pain meds I had to take much of last week.

Ya, Kyle is the force this season and I think he will be the Chase Champion and may also be the top dog in Trucks and/or Nationwide...

He and "Cousin Carl Edwards have been a hoot to watch racing in the Nationwide series.

Codygirl is my wife, so I can't allow her to get too far ahead this early. :slaugh:

Last season it was Lynn who dominated until the last two weeks when I finally caught up and took over first place... Until qualifications when she regained the lead and I finished a close second...

Funny thing is Yahoo provides 4... Yep 4 "Experts" and I finished with more points than any one "expert" and I'm already ahead of them again this season.

Hey, I understand... It does take some time and if you aren't a fan or have a favorite driver it is hard to follow.

If you change you mind, the offer stands and thanks for the post...

Boy, don't you know it...

That made a big change in my total points for the race. I collected 6 bonus points for qualifications and 312 for my driver choices which elevated me four places.

With the 9 race limit per driver it hurts to have a top driver make an error like that and loose points.

It's bad enough when a wreck or mechanical trouble ends a race.

This season has been much more competitive than the first season using the COT with many more lead changes and a tighter field.

Thursday begins my driver choices as the deadline is 2 am Friday... All day coverage Friday and we can enjoy the Trcks and Nationwide race before Sprint cup...

Skinzy, you beat me out this week by 3 points! My drivers finished better, but the bonus points got me. Hell, I haven't followed Nascar for over 15 years. I stayed away from it because they still won't let Dodge run the Hemi. It is a stock motor in the Charger, what does a Camry, Monte Carlo, and the rest of the front wheel drives have? I think the other manufacturers are scared of the hemi!

I could have been that my drivers went down laps so quickly that it wasn't looking good for your host, so I multi-tasked...

Had had Cousin Carl set, but changed just before the race to Kyle Busch...

Slick track and Kyle just went hand in hand and Carl was mid-field in the pits...

The Truex Jr. had passed a kidney stone, so I went with David Ragan and my "C" driver Reed Sorenson caused the first caution on the first lap!

I was fortunate that Tony Stewart was able to get back on the lead lap and finish respectfully.

Hey, I figured Carl Edwards wanted to do better and was due. The Penske team had the new R6P8 engines and they were making alot more horsepower. So, I took the crap shot. Atlanta being a 1.5 mile track, HP helps alot. I think Penskes team should do better on the longer tracks, except Daytona and Talladega, which is ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ restrictor plate races. It looks like to me the 405 bumper to bumper going 180 mph!

Well, I will call it beginners luck, for the first try. I will watch the Penske team closer, as Roger hates loosing!

I was so set on Carl too... The fastest lap times looked good, then I considered the pit selection after his less than steller qualifying effort...

What I really dislike is using someone like Kyle who finished two laps down...

It's choices like that the hurt the entire season.

Yep, the super speedways allow anyone the same chance of winning if one survives the big one...

I knew about the new engine, but was leary with the engine troubles of late. That was a bold move...

I may be keeping ya company soon. Last season I started well, dropped to next to last out of 33 teams and then in the last few weeks zoomed to the top and held first for a few days.

Then Lynn regained the lead with qualification bonus points and I finished second.

So, you gained points on me if my memory is correct.
