Rep Power: 0 | I truly believe that if more ppl exercised we would be alot happier, not to mention thinner....I just read an article stating that more Americans are Obesse, than are overweight, and for childeren it is even worse....We, are going to have to change if we desire to be in around in the next 10 yrs....I, myself have disciplined myself to exercising everyday.....the best form of exercise is walking and it is something we all can do, if you don't like to walk by yourself ask someone, or form a walking grp, but we have to do something, our kids are following in our footsteps and if a child is no longer able to even run because of their weight....what does that say about America? And their are other things to do as well swimming, bike riding, shoveling snow, walking up and down stairs, strecthing, building your muscle tone by lifting small weights.......but one thing that does not work are diets....for we have to change our thinking, in order to change our eating.......not change our eating, in order to to change our thinking..... Rep Power: 0 | Re: Choosing To Be Active.....Instead of Passive! It is a choice. I find it amazing how many people tell me they don't have time to exercise but they will sit and watch a a couple of foot ball games on a Sunday and stuff their faces with junk. It is a lack of discipline, self discipline. I also believe it is a learned condition. You are right, kids watch us and become the same way. Amazing how going for a walk in the evening, and eating a bowl of berries instead of a process artificial modified clump of food from a box works.... |

Rep Power: 184913 | Re: Choosing To Be Active.....Instead of Passive! While the body works best when fit, weight isn't lost via exercise, it is how one eats that causes the accumulation of fat. I have always been extremely active, so active I couldn't gain weight until my first neck/spinal surgery. During my recovery I went from my 160 Lbs to over 200 Lbs. Once released from restrictions I lost the extra weight, returning to my 160 lbs, but I also had more physical restrictions and battled my weight for the next 20 years. About 6 maybe 7 years ago I reinjured my low back... migrating pain radiating down my left leg and my kneee couldn't hold my body weight. Fortunatly, a few epidural steroid treatments and I began PT, lost a couple pounds and got serious about my fitness, but to stablize my weight I had to learn to eat properly and consistantly. My wife wasn't as dedicated, but not long ago started Weight Watchers on line... No meetings or weigh ins as in the past, but all the support one could ask for... My wife is not working out at all, yet is loosing fat, while my goal was to replace my body fat with lean muscle. It's about time for measurments and weight with my trainer, so my current fat mass isn't current, but I was 179 lbs until a recent dental emergency and as of today I'm 173 lbs and that was after breakfast and lunch. So, in my humble opinion and learned experience says, learn to eat correctly, portion correctly, do it consistantly and you will loose fat. I believe one should be as fit as possible to reduce the abuse of bone on bone injuries, and a rational goal that is obtainable will sustain motivation too. For those who don't know... I'm 53 years young, 5' 10" and have been disabled for 20 years. My neck with the exception of three spots is one solid bone and doesn't move and I have nerve degeneration/loss in both arms and various other areas. Too see me in person, no one would guess I'm disabled... :slaugh: Live to love, love to live... |
