Anyone do martial arts?

Does anyone else do any martial arts? I've been doing kenpo for like 20 years.
I've also been doing some brazilian jiu-jitsu for the last 2. I've got a couple of buddies who are becoming the 10th planet jiu-jitsu Pasadena location. If you know anything of Eddie Bravo... well they follow his philosophies quite closely.

I once practiced Kickboxing, but that was a long time ago. Would still like to get back into it.

Re: Anyone do martial arts?

For S.E. ... I think tuition is about $100 per month depending how much you want to come. But don't quote me on that. Check out their site:
http://www.kenpofit.com/
Suite 215.... come on down. Folks of all ages and abilities train there. It's easily accesible of the 210 right @ Allen ave.

fwiw I have no fiscal interest in said club. I train there (mostly) and know the owners well. I thought it pertinent to post here as they can be very mmj friendly.

tell them Jeff sent ya.

Cannadyke;
good for you. Tai Chi is excellent exercise ,especially for the elderly or folks w/ impairments (not to say that you are either). I like my contact for now , but I will prolly do Tai Chi @ some point. Every other year or so my in-laws from Hong-Kong come and stay with us. My father in law does Tai Chi in our backyard every day. It's inspiring. The guy is 79 and never slows down.

tai chi is excellent. it is amazing how much you can sweat by moving so slowly ;)
even tho tai chi is great exercise, it is a martial art and can be used for self defense as well. it is a "soft" form that uses your opponents force and energy against them.

i took up tai chi because i was looking for an exercise that would engage both my mind and body. plus, i was looking to strengthen myself (i have repetitive motion injuries to my knee and shoulder---it's helped my knee a lot).

i was also looking for an exercise that i would be able to continue for the rest of my life. as you mentioned, your FIL is 79 and is practicing tai chi. it's great for balance, core strengthening, flexibility and getting your chi flowing.

most of the other students in my class all do kung fu as well (tiger/crane). the school is mainly a kung fu school. tai chi is a good cross exercise for kung fu (tai chi will help your kung fu, but kung fu won't necessarily help your tai chi). sifu is from hong kong.

Re: Anyone do martial arts?

I've studied Shotokan karate, taekwondo, and judo. It's been over 7 years since I've done any of it. I'll start up again when my personal economy gets better. I'm kind of interested in Kung Fu San Soo and Tai Chi.

Awesome. Doing martial arts is like getting a tattoo. Once you get started you never want to stop.

Re: Anyone do martial arts?

I used to study taekwondo when i was a kid. Only got a few belts in then my parents stopped paying for the classes. Was really fun too, wish i could have stayed with it. I remember one time in class we were sparring with each other, i thre a round house kick at this kid and got him right in the cut. I have some power behind my legs so i ended up knocking the wind out of him and bruising his stomach. THROUGH THE THICK ASS PAD. I thought that was pretty awesome.
