Rep Power: 57742 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? freezer for sure. treat it like you would 'regular" butter. it will last many months in the freezer. pick up glad brand 1/2 cup containers and pour your butter into these when it is finished. one of these "tubs" is equal to one stick of butter. most baking recipies call for a stick or two of butter---so you will have amounts that are pre-measured. you can keep a tub in the fridge if you want to put some on toast or cook w/ it. for your freezer butter, put the tubs into a ziplock freezer bag for some xtra protection if your concerned. |

Rep Power: 123 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? The extra protection during freezing would be a good idea as the herb in the Canna Butter after some time can tend to get freezer burnt tasting. A month or so should be good with some some steps to wrap it up better... |

Rep Power: 123 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? You know a better way to go than butter is Canna Oil using Olive Oil. It has far many more uses and can be stored without freezing it for years! Works better for me now on my pain levels and I used to use Butter ALL the time. I just make cupcakes that call for oil and so many more... Also oil takes only 30 minutes to start effecting my pain! |

| Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? Just had to figure this out for myself ... now I am totally hooked on my own home baked medicated cookies. They are awesome. Taking a real break from smoked if I can. The various butter and oil methods are intriguing for sure. I like to get this already done though from the dispensary, butter has all that has been available where I go. And, they just call it "cannabutter". No indication of what type weed, though, after using it: I know it is strong stuff. |

Rep Power: 10657 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? Oil, clarified butter, ghee it's all the same, just a fat transport mechanism and I've made all 3. IMO, the best method is using a double boiler, or a glass or stainless steel bowl set over barely simmering water. Mix ground bud, shake, kif, whatever you have into the chosen fat in the bowl, set over the pot of water such that it doesn't touch the water. Stir every 10-20 minutes for about 2 hours. Use very low heat as the bowl acts as a lid, doesn't take much to keep the water at a bare simmer. If you use very fruity extra virgin olive oil yes, it does mask the taste somewhat. I've put it in some stronger pasta sauces (arraibiata, putanesca) and you couldn't taste the MMJ at all in the end. Using the double boiler it never scorches though, so it shouldn't have a burnt or strong taste, and I like the subtle flavor MMJ adds. If you're going to use it in baking sweets (brownie and cake mixes usually call for oil) I'd use something labeled just "olive oil" as it's much more neutral in flavor or for that matter just use canola/safflower oil. |

Rep Power: 118 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? Getting back to the original question: You should store it in the freezer in a zip loc bag with all the air squeezed out. If you want max potency and good flavor, use it within a month of manufacture. Butter can be kept for a long time, but once you mess with the chemical composition, treat it as if you need to use it quick. Storing it in the fridge is "ok" for short periods of time (a day or two), but take note that it WILL soak up flavors of other stuff you have in the fridge. Nobody wants their butter to smell like 2 week old chow mein. |

Rep Power: 177 | just keep oxygen away from it in the freezer and it is good for up to 6 months, after i solidify it i openup the bagg and put in a nugget of dry ice and let it evaporate and the seal it up and no worries. my problem with commercially avaliable cannabutter is the lack of information and the stuff i make is much darker than anything that i have ever seen in the coops it may be my procedure, take all your gonna use and pulverize it in the blender until it is like flour, put it into the fat of choice i use butter since i bake with it and then put it into a slow cooker for 8 hours adn let it go to town it slowly extracts everything and then i strain it through some coffee filters backed up by cheese cloths and using a cotton glove as a first layer and then a surgical glove i squeeze the hell out of it and then in another bowl take boiling hot water and pour it through the veggie matter and get every gram out of it . i am then left witha dilemma do i want this to be as i call it 1x or do i double down and use the butter i have to act as the base for a double strength batch(2x) if i do i put more butter in the crock pot and get some more clippings and such and work the blender magic again and in another 8 hours of cooking have some 2x butter altho i have made up one batch of 3x once for a terminal friend it is a little too potent for most medical users but she seemed to appreciate it a lot . I came up with the multiple strengths because i was noticing that people who bake with cannabis would complain about the taste andtexture so i figured that if you treated the cannabaked good like a regular baked good the logicla thing to do was increase the titer(concentration of the cannabis)instead of increasing the amount used so the twxture and the taste would be minimally affected.and i tseems to work for me altho the cost is increased the taste and effctiveness is much better. i would like coops to have clippings avaliable for cannabutter makers to use in their butter makings. but by and large treat it like any other fat and keep it away from o2 and cold and it should be ok for longer that you will have it avaliable. btw i find that commercial brownie mixes work just fine for multiple x applications and if the taste is too pronounced use some davinci flavoring syrups to increase the flavor of the baked good you know the stuff they use in coffee shops for flavoring coffee or my fav hot chocolate hazelnut yummy! well thats all i got for now how this helped I remain Captain Cannabis |

Rep Power: 13385 | Re: how long can cannabudder be kept stored? This is a response to Pain Lady. Making canna oil takes a while, but it is a nice alternative to the butter. Much healthier and the flavor is lighter. To make your own, remember that you you need good ingredients. You can use shake and/or trim from just about any strain, but I find that if you are able to use trim and shake from good strains then that will enhance the strength. Check with your local dispensary and/or collective and ask them. Many will provide them at a great bargain. Also, you will need to determine on your own just how much medicine to use in the oil. I often will use an entire ounce of good trim for my batches and find the strength quite comparable to using good shake. You can find recipes all over the internet, but making olive oil is quite easy. Take some good oil olive oil - preferably a good brand from the grocery store, but you can use something from Costco as well. You don't have to go to a specialty store. Empty the entire bottle into a pan. Take your medicine and grind it up in a coffee grinder. Then add the finely ground medicine. The nice thing with oil is that you don't have to add water like when you make butter. Bring to a boil ONLY ONCE then simmer for approximately 10-12 hours. This takes a LOT of attention. I would suggest using this method ONLY if you're going to be around. You really should never leave oil on the stove unattended. Actually, if you have a crock pot, that is another great way to go, then you don't have to worry so much about the stove. When you are done cooking, take some cheese cloth and line it in a strainer. Drain the oil through the cheese cloth several times using a clean cheese cloth each time. After a few strains, you should have pretty clear oil and you can then store this in an air tight container - preferably the same container it came in. You can use the oil in many ways - the usual is with baked goods, but if you don't have a sweet tooth or have issues related to sugar, you can make salad dressing, toss your pasta in it after cooking, add to scrambled eggs or sauces. You can use it exactly the way you would any other oil. Good luck and hope this helps! |
