| Yoga and appetite I am not what you'd call a yoga devotee; ideally I'd be doing it every other day but I'm often lazy. One fantastic result of any yoga workout I do, be it challenging and on the strenuous side (I'm an intermediate beginner, I guess you'd say) or be it simply about relaxation, is an increase in my appetite. I have little to none these days, and am usually pretty nauseated most of the morning -- and yet I don't lose weight, darn it -- and when I started my very gentle relaxation practice today, I was in no mood for food. Halfway through my appetite roared into life. Now I need to get something to eat and I didn't even have to medicate to make that happen. This is by no means an unknown benefit of yoga but I thought I would reiterate it here for people who have problems with their appetite. By the way, I was using Crunch's Candlelight Yoga DVD, the relaxing workout (there's also an energizing one I haven't tried yet). Sara Ivanhoe is a great instructor and strongly emphasizes doing only as much as you can, with a student who demonstrates adaptations to make the poses a little easier. And you can always just sit, breathe, and relax if there's no way you can do a certain pose. |
