Rep Power: 4126 | I have a cousin that has Crohns. I was playing with the idea of suggesting mmj to my cousin to help her son with his Chrons. My questions: 1) how helpful is mmj with Crohns? (another words, Do you get Pain relief? or is the appetite stimulant the part that helps, so you can eat and not get sick? or some combination or other relief? ) 2) How do you get the best relief? Smoking? edibles? Vaping? I want to approach my cousin with this, but her son is only 16. I normally against kids use of MMJ, but as a medicine and knowing even if I suggest it, this will be an uphill battle.. I think edibles will be easiest, but his list of foods he can eat are so limited it's a wonder he is still with us at all. Anyway I know this kid well and if I suggest this it will not be well accepted, but knowing how he has to live with this the rest of his life, and the cost of meds he has to take, I wonder if mmj wouldn't help reduce the number of meds he is taking now? It is a quality of life issue I have to make him understand. |

We haven't really talked to much into it, but any time marijuana is brought up he praises it for helping nausea and cramps, and he can eat like there is no tomorrow.. lol MJ works well as a antiinflammatory, so most stomach illness will benefit from mj. google it up there is tons of info between crons and mj. |

Being a minor this would be something that his parent would need to be OK with and talk to a doctor about. I understand your concern with your cousin but until he is an adult and able to do something about it himself, there is little that you can do. Just be there as a friend and try and keep his mind off of the Crohns. |

Rep Power: 4126 | Re: Crohn's and MMJ honestly I am even afraid to suggest it as something to look into.. the even mention of it will cause hairs on the back of his mothers neck to stand at attention. I know I can't do anything about it really. I was thinking if I could get first hand testimonials (as it were) I would walk up to his mom and not even mention to him as he is a minor, and say look here is a medication I found that is natural and seems to help others in these ways! *(maybe not even that matter of fact) and give her some sites to look at and even print out a post or two for her to read.. Anyway that was my original Idea, and as I said, I am afraid to go that far. I am the oldest, and my cousin and I grew up together. Now she is teaching and helping blind children. Shes a good person with a good heart, and I would say she is intelligent and to practical for her own good. The mention on Marijuana will still raise the roof.. lol |

Supposedly once she started she was asymptomatic for 5 yrs+. They make hot chocolate and bake with the milk. Full fat milk not skim or reduced fat. |

| Re: Crohn's and MMJ I have crohn's/celiacs and the MMJ has been a lifesave. A year ago I was 130lbs at 5'11" and I've put on ten pounds and pretty much maintained it. It works incredibly well for cramps and colon spasms. The only problem is that it can stimulate your appetite and cause your cravings for forbidden foods to be overwhelming at times. It can also cause me to fail to recognize when I over-eat which for me is really easy to do as my stomach can only handle small amounts of anything at a time. EDIT: Thought I'd add that I cannot eat edibles. They put the hurt on my stomach/colon and don't help at all. I really wish I could digest it. |

Hi RedEye, Beta-caryophyllene (sp?) is one of the terpenes present in cannabis, and it acts on the CB2 receptors in the intestinal lining and switches off the inflammation process. UC, IBS, and Crohns are awful conditions... I have one friend who's had it since 16 and they've been at deaths door too many times because of it. I've danced the same dance as you, as they are conservative in many ways. My primary computer is down, so I can't pull the link for you, but if you google "beta-caryophyllene terpene cannabis CB2 intestine" you'll be on the right track. Perhaps peer-review journal articles will carry more weight? :) Good luck to you and your cousin! | |
