Rep Power: 0 | A couple months back i got a seatbelt ticket. The fine came out to $94 and i did not pay it cuz i was not working and simply did not have $94 to pay it. Now i get a letter that i have a Fail to Appear in court. And now thay want me to pay $700 or they will suspend my license. Do u really think they will suspend my license over 1 seatbelt ticket? I have no prior offenses what so ever. This is my first ticket. They also said that if I dont pay the 700 then it will go into collections. How should I go about handling this?? Cuz i dont have $700 to pay. Could I do community service or something like that?? Please lety me know. |

I spent a weekend in L.A. county jail over that choice... After being bussed to the court house, I pled guilty and was sentenced to "time served"... Last I knew a failure to appear became a bench warrant for arrest, but that was some 30 + years back... The lesson was valued enough that I never repeated that mistake... Never had another ticket. |

The penalty for that is a suspended license for a year. Then its $40 a day at the sheriff’s brothers tow yard to store your car for a month. $40 x 30day + Misc fees = like $100,000 It’s best not to get on the wrong side of the law, or you become their slave or a criminal. |
