I can't design or draw or i would help! What I CAN do is MARK the 6th of October on my calendar and take the day off of work and go show my support!

once we get to the "artwork", i have a friend who happens to be a mmj patient, and he owns his own shirt printing co. so' i can work on getting that thru, perhaps they (family team) can give us a reduced rate for our goal. hemp shirts with natural dyes.

i'm also willing to fill in where ever i can. oh yea, i will be harvesting my california legal amount by then, so i will be holding, and sharin with all my fellow patients in pain, and it seems like alot of us are in pain "at the moment", and it's all part of life and change.

T-shirts are totally awesome...Hemp t-shirts with natural dyes are beyond totally awesome. You rock. WE NEED GRAPHIC ARTISTS to make t-shirt logos, post card logos, and flyer logos, etc.

I love it. Thank you. I really appreciate your graphic skills. Can you make a logo or image that represent "GREEN OUT" the nation? Maybe a marijuana leaf covering the USA?

Can you make OCTOBER with the two 'o' with the leaf in the middle and the "R" with Rx symbol and also can you make a logo with 10/06/08 the zeros with a leaf in the middle and the 8 with two leaves?

We might want to think a bit more about messaging. I really don't get the significance of calling it a "green out" and I'm not sure that will really hit home with people outside of the movement.

What is the message we want to get across? Let's figure that out and come up with a succinct slogan that expresses this.

It's like BLACK OUT days were groups of people do NOT purchase anything, do NOT go to work or school or do any normal daily activities but since Green is our color we're going GREEN OUT the nation instead of black it out.

The message we are going to get out is:

Federal Law is wrong
Cannabis is a medicine
FREE Charles Lynch

We're going to show the nation we do NOT work without our medicine and the Nation does NOT work without us.

I could use all the help I can get. We're going to ask ALL dispensaries (listed on WT or NOT) to close that day plus "head" shops and other marijuana related businesses.

And to support John Conyers Letter, dated April 29, to the DEA. And to inform you that Charles Lynch, a medical marijuana dispensary owner was found guilty of 5 cannabis-only Federal charges even he followed all city, county and state laws. He faces 25-100 years in Federal prison for helping patients just like me.

Thanks for the explanation, but I'm still not convinced associating with the color green is our best bet. When people think about marijuana, they already think about all the cliches - green pot leafs, 4:20, smoking joints, etc. I think it's best to instead try to get people to think about MEDICAL marijuana - pill bottles, the Rx symbol, etc.

Also, I have some bad timing news that I just heard from ASA's director of government affairs - it is extremely likely that Congress will adjourn at the end of September, meaning that congressional reps and staff will be out campaigning and won't be in their offices to take calls on October 6th. That doesn't mean an action shouldn't happen on October 6 (I definitely think it should), but we should keep this limitation in mind. Maybe the action should be aimed at Obama, reminding him what he promised in the primaries about not continuing these raids and prosecutions?

Just some thoughts... feel free to take them or leave them. Regardless, ASA would like to be very involved in this and our staff has already started to toss around a bunch of ideas. I plan to come down for the day of action and I'm sure many of our other Oakland staff members will too. Also, ASA's chief counsel Joe Elford will be speaking to Lynch's attorney's and offering to help with the sentencing memo.

To me it really does NOT matter what we do. This is the idea I came up with last night when I could NOT sleep. I'm NOT married to it. I think 10/6 be a day all marijuana users (patients or not) do NOT go to work, do NOT go to school, Do NOT go grocery shopping, do NOT buy gas, and basically protest to give the government and its people an idea of how many of us there really are. I understand ASA is all about the medical aspect of marijuana and it's important to me too because I am a patient. However, cannabis NEEDS to be rescheduled on the federal level if people like Charlie Lynch ever do NOT have to fight for their lives over cannabis-only charges.

I appreciate ASA support with this event and also see it as a multi-organization effort including Student for Sensible drug policies, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Marijuana Policy Project, Norml, and any other group that wants to change cannabis scheduling. Which reminds me, I should contact those groups soon.

If you can come up with a logo and theme that would be great. Maybe we can have a brainstorming meeting and have those who can physically be there join us via the internet.

I do NOT have all the answer and I do NOT know how to do this best. All I know is I can NOT sit back and WATCH Charlie Lynch go to jail with putting up the biggest fight I can. I'm open to any and all suggestions as long as they are followed by action as well.

I honestly do NOT see it as bad timing. Isn't congress on recess this month? The congress people will be in their home districts, they will be closing to the action and NOT isolated in DC. Patients/Caregivers/Supporters should be contacting their reps before 10/6 [preferable ASAP]. The law changes IN CONGRESS. I really do NOT care to focus on a presidential candidate because it brings partisan issues and this is a NONpartisan issue. Cannabis is improperly scheduled and ONLY Congress can change that. The president can help with that but THIS current president WILL NOT help us or Charles Lynch. We can focus on presidential support once we have a new president....FOR OCT 6. LETS FOCUS ON those Congress members who will be home.

ASA's chief counsel, Joe Elford, just got off the phone with Charles Lynch's attorney. He confirmed that Lynch's sentencing is NOT on October 6th and is instead scheduled for October 20th. However, it is VERY likely that the sentencing hearing will be pushed back to a future date, possibly in early 2009.

The hearing on the 6th is the motion for a new trial hearing. That hearing is likely to be held on the 6th so it might make sense to still hold a protest that day, but again, it won't be the sentencing hearing.

I think it makes sense to plan some sort of action before sentencing, since it likely won't happen for many months.

There's a difference between being on recess and being adjourned. Once Congress is adjourned, nobody is in the office to pick up the phone. Congressional members will be preoccupied with campaigning. I think we should all attend campaign events and question our members and candidates there, but there will be no way to contact them at their offices. I understand the desire to target Congress and maybe there's some way to do it but we should think this through considering they will be adjourned for the session (not on recess).

That's interesting. Thanks for the update. I sorta hope his sentencing is in 2009 because we'll have a new president and some new congress people and maybe he won't be sentence for very long. What else does ASA say about this?
