Rep Power: 38079 | Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday Radley Balko | July 18, 2008, 12:15pm Charlie Lynch is the owner of a medical marijuana dispensary in Morro Bay, California. Though the business is legal under state law, Lynch was arrested in July of last year for violating federal drug laws. Last month, he was featured in the Drew Carey documentary below. As the video explains, Lynch is facing extra charges for giving medical marijuana to 17-year-old Owen Beck, who used the drug to treat the symptoms of bone cancer. Lynch faces up to 100 years in prison. His trial begins Tuesday. Check Lynch's website for more information on his case, including directions to the courthouse where he'll be tried. |

Rep Power: 232 | Re: Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday The problem is the perception. Some of these people think marijuana is the life-destroying poison substance, detrimental to society. "Anyone who poisons other people, should go away forever!" With that mentality; which most of us have, it's not hard to see how a conviction occurs using this logic. Those people are unaware, they can't be faulted for the follies that occured/still occur above their heads. |

Rep Power: 19 | okay, have any authorities noticed the whole CANCER thing? He wasn't just some little bitch sitting outside the liquor store trying to get wasted with his chronically masturbating virginal buddies!!! come on now people commmon sense!!!! This is just ridiculous. I think mmj should be available to anyone, the age thing is stupid, I've lived in incredible spectacular pain all my life, if someone came up to me and told me that a 21 yr old man who can't sleep at night and has an achey back deserves MMJ more than a 12 yr old girl who is passing out in the middle of classes because of the drugs she's on for all the pain she's in should not be allowed to access this safe medication, I'm pretty sure I'd punch them in the chest and kick them in the face while they lay on the floor! (What I'm 5'3.5? I couldn't do much damage this low to the ground.) I sincerely hope this case is presided over by a judge and jury who have compassion and some common sense. This case is insulting! I will meditate for him until he is free of this nonsense! |

Rep Power: 16257 | Re: Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday Defendants need a show of support from the community. Well dressed citizens, sitting in support make judges nervous. MJ is actually medicine which works on all humans - even those under 18. I know of children who have benefited by their kind mothers who have broken the law and helped them with MJ. clinton |

Rep Power: 438 | Re: Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday Here are the details about the hearing: Tuesday, July 22, Los Angeles: Trial for Charles Lynch Begins Trial at 8am before Judge George Wu in U.S. District Court (C.D., CA) <http://www.safeaccessnow.org/%20>, Courtroom 10 at 312 North Spring Street in Los Angeles, 90012. San Luis Obispo County dispensing collective operator Charles Lynch was raided by the DEA and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs on July 17,2007 at Central Coast Compassionate Caregivers in Morro Bay, CA. According to a testimonial, "/Central Coast Compassionate Caregivers took precautions to inform its patients regarding the restrictions that applied to them by attaching a copy of the rules and regulations governing medical cannabis to their package upon receipt. Picture IDs were issued to prevent fraud. Not only were the letters of recommendation verified, they also looked up the doctors on the California Medical Board's web site to make sure that the doctors were in good standing. The Morro Bay dispensary added video surveillance and a metal detector to further the safety of its patients and to discourage misuse. For the year that the CCCC was open, there were no problems or complaints reported to the dispensary. In fact, employees of neighboring businesses were dismayed to see them raided by law enforcement./" Lynch was indicted for conspiracy to possess and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and concentrated cannabis, manufacturing (cultivating) more than 100 plants, knowingly maintaining a drug premises, and sales of marijuana to a person under the age of 21. Additionally, criminal forfeiture proceedings have begun on his assets. For more information, please check out this Drew Carey documentary from Reason tv <http://safeaccessnow.org/blog/?p=110>. Lynch remains out on bail. For more information see Charles' website <http://www.friendsofccl.com>. *Supporters are encouraged to attend!* |

Rep Power: 108674 | Re: Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday I would love to go, but cannot. Seeing how this a federal case it is going to be tough. why arent they going after the doctor then? after all he is the one who enabled this patient to obtain his medicine.Hopefully this Judge Wu will have enough common sense to see that the sheriff was acting on his own personal agenda, and not obey state law that he swore to protect. Instead turned his own community over to the feds, destroying even more lives. My support will be there in strong spirit tomorow. Thanks for representing, ASA and those who are going. Peace |

Rep Power: 438 | Re: Charlie Lynch Trial Begins Tuesday I just heard that the trial is being postponed until tomorrow. In terms of ASA attending, I'm sure many of our chapter members will attend. Don is ASA's only staff member in LA and I'm unsure of whether he'll be able to attend or not but he'd be the one to contact. |
