Rep Power: 0 | National NORML conference in LA September 17, 2007 Dear Friends: America's only public conference to discuss the topic of cannabis is soon upon us. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) will convene its 36th annual conference, October 12-14*, 2007, at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles. This year's conference has two focal points: -A discussion on why California, and most of the west coast, is more cannabis-friendly than the rest of America; -Medicinal cannabis: The most recent scientific discoveries regarding cannabis will be examined and there will be discussions on how to continue to best implement the promise of medical cannabis law reforms, notably in California, in the face of federal raids and political opposition. *Because of recent federal (and in some circumstances, state) legal actions against medical cannabis providers, NORML's Legal Committee is hosting an additional day at the conference (October 14) exclusively for medical cannabis providers, dispensary and cooperative management and their staffs, attorneys, physicians, caregivers and patients. This year's NORML conference will also have panels, with fascinating and informed speakers, on topics such as: -Models for Medical Cannabis Distribution Post Prop. 215/S.B. 420 -Cannabis Use Among Senior Citizens -Cannabis Consumer Safety -Cannabis Cultivation For Medicine -Legislative and Initiative Reviews/Analysis -Cannabis Activism: Youth to Seniors -Cannabis and Mental Health Issues -Vaporization vs. Smoking -Racial Disparity In Cannabis Prohibition Enforcement The extra add-on day for medical cannabis providers, Sunday, October 14, will have NORML lawyers and licensed physicians from California presenting on important topics for medical cannabis providers, such as: -Establishing The Framework For A Legally Compliant Dispensary Or Cooperative -Working With Lawyers And Doctors: Ethical Considerations -Federal and State Forfeiture Issues For Medical Cannabis Providers -Taxes, Finances And Other Confusing Matters -What To Do Regarding Law Enforcement Encounters And Defending The Distribution Model -Zoning and Land Use Law For Medical Cannabis Providers -Definition of 'Caregiver' -More. Much More! The medical cannabis community in California (and the west coast of America) really needs to come out in large numbers–in solidarity–for this important NORML conference. The cost to attend the Sunday medical marijuana symposium for individuals and/or dispensaries and cooperatives is $50/person or $100/ dispensaries and cooperatives (Dispensaries and cooperatives can bring four representatives. If more are needed, for special arrangement please contact NORML via the information provided below). Please see the attached listing for conference sponsorships. To encourage full community participation, please inquire with NORML's Ron Fisher (ron@norml.org / 888-67-NORML) regarding group discounts for dispensary or cooperative medical cannabis patients that want to attend NORML's 2007 national conference. NORML 2007 in Los Angeles: All Work And No Play…No Way! Perish the thought that NORML conferences are all work and no play as both the NORML Annual Activist's Awards and Silent Auction Party on Friday, October 12, (where the cannabis law reform movement's best and brightest are recognized for their good work and deeds) as well as Saturday night's High Times Magazine's 2007 Stony Awards help balance out the serious work and concerns of cannabis advocacy work. This year's High Times' Stony Awards is a fundraising benefit for NORML and will almost certainly sell-out (read: High Times + NORML + Hollywood + Cannabis-friendly Celebrities and Musical Supporters = Sold Out Event). Tickets for the Saturday night, October 13th Stony Awards are $75/person and are only available from the Knitting Factory: +323-463-0204 (x122) +www.knittingfactory.com +Text to 'SHPTEXT' Further details, such as for discounted hotel room rates, regarding NORML's 2007 national conference are found at www.norml.org. NORML, a public interest group since 1970 supported by and for cannabis consumers. I hope to see you, your fellow providers, medical patients and all your like-minded friends/family at NORML's national conference this October. NORML's annual cannabis-related art and memorabilia silent auction is only as cool and exciting as the objects, art, ephemera and services donated by supportive citizens. If you or your medical cannabis collective have any valuable or notable items, unique services or cannabis-related memorabilia that you can kindly donate, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the NORML Foundation. Please contact Ron Fisher at ron@norml.org or 888-67-NORML. -- For the latest marijuana and medical marijuana news visit: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/mmjnews/ "I have a final word for all the people who use marijuana, don't smoke in the rain. Rep Power: 0 | I am just glad to hear that people are getting out there and educating them selves. I think the most ignorant thing we can do as MM users is not know anything about the laws and legislation that control our medicine use. And not to mention going to the Stoney awards is a big bonus. I happened to find NORML by accident on facebook about a year ago and i am stoked to see it here to of course. lets get out there and fight for our right to toke! |
