Infinite Jest

by David Foster Wallace, who committed suicide a couple months ago after struggling with depression for much of his life. A great, great book with quite a few hilarious situations involving marijuana. Highly recommended. Don't let the 1,000+ pages intimidate you. Give yourself time to acclimate to his writing and it will grow on you. Amazing writer. Tragic loss for us all.

I agree with you a Brilliant Mind and Wit has been lost. I read Infinite Jest several years ago, including all the author's notes and began to feel like the Infinite Jest was on me for plodding through it to the end. There are some times of incredible satire and writing though and it is worth a stab for any fans of Pynchon or others.

Other notable works by DFW:
A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again - Laugh out loud reading, particularly about Cruise Ship experiences and the Ohio State Fair.

Girl With Curious Hair

The Broom of the System

Brief Interviews With Hideous Men

Re: Infinite Jest

Gravity's Rainbow has been staring at me from a shelf for nearly a year now. I think that's going to be my next read. But I've always been intrigued by Infinite Jest. That's probably coming up soon...but I have some Styron I have to read...
