Rep Power: 195939 | Re: fAV aUtHOr My favorite author(s) is(are) Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write together and they each write independently as well. Some of the best "thriller-supernatural-mystery" books I've ever read. Their collaberation started with "Relic." I'm also very partial to Robert M. McCammon, who wrote the epic post-apoc novel "Swan Song." Swan Song is somewhere near the top of my all-time list. It's easily the equal of or better than King's "The Stand." |

Rep Power: 10280 | Re: fAV aUtHOr Kem Nunn is my favorite, overall, though kind of obscure. He has a really good sense of a wide range of people which shows through in his characters. As well as a special knack for illustrating good and evil, and the sort of dark side to the "California Dream" that's been fed through the media from the beach boys to bay watch and the like. Most of his books sort of revolve around surfers or surf towns, but are really about the people in them, not so much about surfing per se. Of course I have to give due props to Hunter S. Thompson, Chuck Palahniuk and an old school favorite J.D. Fitzgerald. (I have to admit, childish as it may be, I love those freakin' Great Brain books.) |

Rep Power: 113264 | Re: fAV aUtHOr No. I've never read a Stephen King novel. I was calling Hunter S. Thompson the king, which is a Kerouac reference. At the end of Visions of Cody, Kerouac wrote, "Adios, King," (meaning Neal Cassady), which was often quoted shortly after HST's death. |

Rep Power: 24 | Re: fAV aUtHOr My favorite author is J.K. Rowling. For me growing up with Harry Potter and his friends was an amazing experience and I really loved and enjoyed reading those books and I will definitely read them to my kids when the time comes. My other favorite author is Katherine Dunn. She wrote a book called Geek Love about a couple who own a circus. When the couple gets pregnant they make the decision to ingest drugs so the children will be genetically altered. Their genetic alterations will make them completely unique and thereby perfect for a life in the traveling circus. Each of the children has a special talent or characteristic about them that helps to define them as a person. The story has two seperate settings, one in which you follow one of the children through childhood and into adult life, and the other in which you meet the child in adult life and watch as she tries to develop a relationship with her daughter. The story is a beautiful and immersive tragedy which will leave you crying and wondering, why? |
