For beginners I found "Marijuana Growers Handbook: Indoor/Greenhouse Edition" by Ed Rosenthal, to be ideal for the beginner. Marijuana Botany - Robert Connell Clarke is also a must have. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Essential strain and growing book?? Jorge Cervantes "Marijuana Horticulture" is a good one that gives all the basic need to know information. Very clear and easy to understand. Soma's "Organic Marijuana" is great if you are interested in growing organically, which should be of interest if you are growing for medicinal purposes. As for strains...thats a vague question. So many things to consider...indoor/outdoor, are you aiming for high yield or strong THC levels, does plant size mater, it definitely takes some research to find out what will be ideal for your situation/wants and need. Good Luck. Try the ********.com forums as well. More geared towards growing. |

This is really all you need to grow. I have read MJ books since 88-89, and that book is very good. Probabaly the best there is for overall knowledge. If you can get any books from DJ SHORT those are great reads with excellent knowledge. As for a strain...not sure what you like to smoke so its hard to answer Most strains have a similar growing curve not too difficult if you put your heart into it. Only 1 piece of advice... STAY AWAY FROM SATIVAS and SATIVA DOMINANT PLANTS, they are difficult to grow. Try growing a variety of 3-4 plants and grow 1. Something you know you like. 2. Something you are interested in. Thats my .02 , good luck and have fun. Peace and positive vibes. | |

Rep Power: 11507 | Re: Essential strain and growing book?? A bit of history for ya; Jorge Cervantes was the photograher at High Times during the early days, only interviewed growers. Ed Rosenthal was the grow guru. Later when HT had a shake-up, Ed left and went to ME's mag, Cannabis Canada now Cannabis Culture. The pioneers in "good" MJ grow books were Ed Rosenthal and Mel Frank. There were some books, which gave ideas but lacked the detail of what to do, when and how much. There aren't many that do that, even today. Robert C. Clarkes "Marijuana Botany" is a must have for breeders or anyone who wants a detailed piece on the plant. Also "Hemp Diseases and Pests" although very pricey, a great book.Cannabis Alchemy is good for concentrates. For growing you can't beat Ed! Period. I have Storms books and Tom Flowers "Marijuana Flower Forcing" good reads but not a "guide". Stitchs "Mariuana Garden Saver" is a good reference for sick plants and nutrient deficiencies. And some author has four of my techniques in their book without mention, hmmm. Oh well; I guess I could write a book too! lol. |
