Thumbs up Ventura County MMJ ID cards. Thanks ASA!

Marijuana ID cards coming on Monday

They're designed so police will know patients have medical need

Ventura County Star

Quote:
The card costs $191 or $95.50 for Medi-Cal patients. A number of forms are needed to obtain the card, including original documentation for a prescription from a doctor as well as proof of residency in Ventura County.
The cost may limit participation.

My personal concern is one of fairness.

Do we require other citizens to purchase an ID card to purchase prescriptions from pharmacies because some citizens use prescription drugs illegally?

Nope.

Would the county realize a savings by not wasting law enforcement resources to search and verify legal MMJ patients, obviously, but they will still be required to verify the ID card...

The county would save resources by not arresting MMJ patients.

Thus any savings could off set the high cost of the ID card.

I see this as a "tax" to be left alone by the local and state courts...

With that said, I do thank ASA for the movement forward.

To tell you the truth Living in Ventura county i dont think the card would help at all. Ventura county cops and CHP are very unfair to us. I've had a bad experience trust me! You have to take everything to court unless you get lucky some how.

Hopefully soon they will get the message and stop wasting tax money on harassing MMJ patients.I'm wondering when and if the AG is going to mandate that state police will follow the state laws they are paid to enforce?

If my county had a card i would be all over it just to be safe. So my advice would be to take advantage of it if u can.

Re: Ventura County MMJ ID cards. Thanks ASA!

Interesting observations.

I'm concerned about "privacy" issues personally.

We recently read/observed state employees misusing information for political reasons and as someone who cannot be "out front" as an advocate I'd be concerned about the misuse of my status as a patient.

I've already experienced discrimination due to my patient status and as a "disabled" person.

For me the cost is very high and would require a cut back on medications to offset the costs.

$200.00 divided by 12 months is $16.666... per month, not bad, but it will require time before I can afford the card with my current financial situation.

Obviously, any movement in Ventura County is better than waiting for the outcome of the City of San Diego to go to the federal supreme court and seek clarity of the current federal vs. state laws.

Perhaps our own clubs/co-ops is nearer than we think...

I personally think that any additional documentation that can be had to prove the legality of your using the drug will only help with the repeal of anti-marijuana policies! During prohibition of the 1930's you would have to pay for a Rec so you could drink! That in turn caused everyone who drank to go out & get a Rec so thus later invalidated the prohibition law through superior numbers! In the end the People have Spoken!!!
