An ASA member brought to my attention the WT ad for Hayes Insurance Agency, which states that this company is "Recommended by Americans for Safe Access."

I wanted to clarify that ASA does not recommend this insurance company or any other private entity including doctors, attorneys, or dispensaries either.

It is true that if someone calls us and asks where to find one of the above services, we will refer them to the CA NORML list or read to them from the list we have. So we do indirectly refer patients and providers to these services, but we would never recommend an individual service over another one. We simply provide the information and allow our constituent to decide.

ASA did not authorize the use of our name in this ad and we are currently contacting the insurance company to ask them to take our name out of the ad. We did not receive any form of compensation for the ad.

Thanks to the member who brought this to our attention. I've been swamped over the past few weeks and haven't had much time to check in here so I probably would not have noticed for some time.

"recomended by" has been changed to "referrals by."

I don't know that that is clear enough for most folks.

We plan to contact them again to ask them to take us off the ad all together - unfortunately, most of us were at a conference last week so this dropped to the back burner.
