VETERAN MEDICAL MARIJUANA ACTIVIST
STEPHANIE LANDA
TO RECEIVE CLEMENCY FROM THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS

In a move of extraordinary compassion, the Warden of F.C.I. Dublin and his staff have personally intervened to keep veteran activist Stephanie Landa at F.C.I. Dublin. Because Ms. Landa is in unrelenting pain, any sort of journey to a new prison would have been agonizingly difficult.

Ms. Landa had been slated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to move from her current location in Dublin, CA, to the women’s prison in Tallahassee, Florida. This would have meant moving an elderly inmate who is in constant pain, a full continent away from friends and family.

In a coordinated effort led by Allison Margolin, Ms. Landa’s attorney, The Landa Prison Outreach Program moved aggressively to educate the prison about Ms. Landa’s shoulder injury. Americans For Safe Access was similarly aggressive in urging the prison to monitor the situation carefully.

The prison was asked to block efforts by the central designation office to relocate Ms. Landa before a medical investigation could be completed and a rational decision made about where she should be designated within the prison system.

“Designating a prisoner often takes up to ninety days, it can be even longer over the holidays because key staff take leave. The prison population doesn’t move much between Thanksgiving and the New Year, which means available slots for re-designation are few. While waiting to be designated, prisoners remain in the Special Housing Unit, which is most uncomfortable.

“With the warden and his staff personally getting involved, the process took only 30 days, and resulted in Ms. Landa being able to stay where she is, which is almost unheard of. We are deeply grateful for their intervention,” remarked Ms. Armstrong, founder of the Landa Prison Outreach Program.

Ms. Landa has been released from solitary confinement. Her address has changed. Interested parties can contact her at the address below or e-mail her at letfreedomgrow@yahoo.com

very good to hear. I dont understand why they wanted to move her in the first place. why not just leave her where she is at.

Re: Stephanie Landa Released From Solitary

I think the move prisoners for a couple reasons.

1. They Can
2. Break bonds that might be made with other prisoners
3. Screw with you
4. ...and last but not least, maybe there is a real reason.

yea i would most likely go with the first reason, as far as any of the guards or correctional officers are concerned anyone that goes to prison is a piece of shit regardless as to the situation.

Makes me sick
