ministryofhope.googlepages.com I don't see any conflict between online activism and field activism.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Shouldnt activist be off their ass? lol everyone wants things both ways. The real work goes on behind the scenes... and when it hits the streets 99 percent of you stay home on your asses or stay at home and bitch about the intriciate details of the protest. Just like when we shut down van nuys blvd and me and the twins personally risked our freedom to stand up to the injusticies at the time. When we did that the ones working behind the scenes went up in arms and did not support our actions and most of the people on the board were calling us idiots etc.... to many chiefs not enough indians in this movement.... |

Rep Power: 163674 | Showing up is 99% of everything. Politicians are motivated by warm bodies at demos and letters from constituents. We are not in jail because politicians have been so motivated. Dennis Peron's club here in SF was swarmed by supporters every time they shut it down. The first time they tried they had to give up, -only to come back another day and succeed, but you get my point. The demo last week at the SF Federal Building had maybe 40 people, organizers and speakers included. I cannot imagine why every single club does not send staff and patients (grateful for the compassion they've received from the club and their vendors) to these demos. It is in your business and political interest to do so. Failing to do so qualifies as political freeloading. "People think they can ignore politics until it kicks down their door." I have very little patience for clubs and vendors who wrap themselves in the flag of compassion in order to make money hand over fist off desperate patients, and then haven't the wit to show up at demos to protect their interests, if nothing else. MMJ patient numbers necessarily dwindle due to illness, poverty, and death. We need new folks to fill in the gaps in the trenches. I make an extra point of showing up when I can because I know there are so many patients who are simply not in a position to do so, due to illness and finances. And there are those who still work but feel they cannot afford to risk their income by being identified as a marijuana user. (C'mon guys. Show some balls. Or donate heavily to ASA and write and phone your reps.) So everyone who can show up, you count for three. One way or another, we're moving toward a better tomorrow. Dammit. Oh, these demos are great parties. Make a lot of lasting friends there. And it's a great way to network so as to get hooked up with caregrowers (please see my thread "Free and Low-Cost MMJ". Can't do it here on WT cuz it just makes an easy target for the lurking LEOs. Blessed be. Last edited by HappaGuy; 12-09-2007 at 05:06 PM.. |

Politicians spend much of their time thinking about how things will play in the media, so tailor your message. Respectfully inform the recipient about how our concerns will effect his/her probable interest in being re-elected or just having a future in politics. Online activism is a good thing and not mutually exclusive to field activism. We need all people of compassion and goodwill to work for the cause, regardless of physical mobility. On the other hand, those physically capable of attending demonstrations should feel an even greater sense of obligation to attend given the situation. For that matter, the people stuck at home in front of the computer should realize they are facing an uphill battle to make a difference and be that much more active behind the scenes, online and on the phone! I am just heart broken to hear the numbers that cared enough to fight for their medicine....I for one will continue to put my body out there not only protesting ..but participating in the community..I strongly urge others to stop and think about how much harder it is to get something back than it is to fight to keep it!! Your post was very well written.. I have huge respect for what you do in your community for all of us.. LTY
