The paramilitary-style raids frightened local patients and providers, with TV cameras capturing footage of a man in a wheelchair being arrested by police (http://bit.ly/13btPH). San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis led the effort. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, more than two dozen people were arrested. If you would like to respond, you can visit D.A. Dumanis' Facebook page and politely tell her what you think: http://bit.ly/H3NQv Wednesday’s raids occurred only one day after the San Diego City Council voted 6-1 to implement a medical marijuana task force to help the city draft local laws. The raids were conducted by the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) and the San Diego Sheriff's Department, with the support of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). "The federal government has no place helping to enforce state and local medical marijuana laws," said ASA California Director Don Duncan. "Local officials must regulate medical marijuana and enforce those laws with civil actions, not with the barrel of a gun." On Tuesday, September 1st, the Shasta Lake City Council (http://bit.ly/3GcOYM) and Woodland City Council (http://bit.ly/3cvkog) both approved 45-day moratoriums. That same night, the Chula Vista City Council extended its moratorium by 10 more months on a 4-0 vote (http://bit.ly/TOKHS). A week later, on September 8th, several more municipalities took similar actions. The Atascadero City Council voted 5-0 to establish a temporary moratorium (http://bit.ly/1sZsaI). The Woodland City Council approved a temporary 45-day moratorium (http://bit.ly/1Zu5hr). The Loma Linda City Council extended its moratorium through next July (http://bit.ly/4Aaaf). The Nevada County Supervisors extended their 45-day moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries to one year (http://bit.ly/IP1zO). Meanwhile in Tehama, the Tehama Herbal Collective has remained open, despite a 45-day temporary ordinance banning collectives in the city (http://bit.ly/g4H0j). Also, the Santa Barbara Planning Commission moved ahead with its approval of a local medical marijuana dispensary by denying an appeal of its decision by the Housing Authority Commission (http://bit.ly/1rXkDZ).
